Virginia Craig Obituary

Craig, Virginia "Jake" Coskery

September 21, 1933 - May 19, 2025

Daughter of Eugene and Lois Coskery, died peacefully May 19, 2025 in Naples, Florida. She is survived by her daughters, Andrea Craig and Laura Chapman (Con), grandsons, Whit (Alex) and Reed (Alden), three great-grandchildren and her sister Susan Taylor. Her youngest sister, Roslyn Souser, passed away last year. Jake was born in Allentown, PA. Like many Coskery family members, she graduated from Penn State, where she met her first husband. He was killed in a military training mission after less than two months of marriage. In 1957, she met Andy Craig on a blind date, whom she married and was the love of her life for sixty-two years. They both instilled the importance of family in their daughters and grandsons. While a strong woman, Jake was lost without her husband by her side when he passed in 2019. Jake was a loyal friend and loved by so many long-time friends. Jake was active in the community while living in Buffalo, NY and St. Louis, MO. While in St. Louis, she served on the Maryville University Board, Missouri Botanical Garden Members Board and co-chaired galas for the St. Louis Art Museum and Dance St. Louis to name a few. Jake was needlepointing and playing bridge up to the very end at 91. She had a constant love of gardening and seemed to know the name of every flower. Jake battled a number of serious health issues for many years, but constantly amazed her doctors with her perseverance, especially after having been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma over a decade ago. One could never tell that she was sick because she always made an effort to look her best. Jake's daughters would like to thank the staff at The Cove and The Marbella for their compassion and for always treating their mother like family. A private service for family will be held in St. Louis at a later date. The family requests that any gifts made in Jake's memory are sent to Siteman Cancer Center (MSC 1082-414-2555, 1 Brookings Drive, St. Louis, MO 63130), Missouri Botanical Garden (Commemorative Giving, 4344 Shaw Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63110), Artis - Naples (Development Department, 5833 Pelican Bay Boulevard, Naples, FL 34108-2740) or a charity of your choice.

Andrea, you are a lovely, remarkable woman, a reflection of your wonderful parents. I know it is hard to let your Mom go, however she will be with you always. Blessings to you and your family.

She and Andy were our neighbors on Brandywine, in Williamsville.
They were a great couple and we became wonderful friends.

Dear Andrea and Laura,
I was with four of my siblings last weekend and we were discussing our mother Mary´s constant marvel that Mrs. Craig managed so well when entertaining - Sitting down only after the kitchen was clean. Always dressed impeccably.
I last saw your parents in `06 at Dad´s service. They were such a wonderful sight to behold at such a sad time.
Please accept my condolences.

Oh my dear, dear Jake. Marsha and I loved you and Andy so very much. Heartfelt condolences to Andrea and Laura and all of the Craig family. Jake was on the aboard at Maryville when I was president. Jake and Andy became benefactors to Maryville, but much more than that, they became dear friends. We spent memorable times with them in their beautiful home in Naples. Jake and Marsha shopped while Andy and I fished in the Mangroves or in the Gulf. They were consummate hosts and as genuine as it is possible to be. I corresponded with Jake on occasion the past several years, and knew that she was in failing health. But her spirit was indomitable. Jake was as beautiful inside as outside. I shall always remember her kindness, sense of humor, and warmth. And Marsha and I hold all of her family in our hearts in a special way at this sad time.
