When I was a little girl I remember thinking that someday I wanted to marry someone like my Uncle Vito. (Sorry Dad!) A guy who wore a tie to work but could still install a plumbing fixture. Who would spend hours working at his computer but knew how to hook up a gas stove. Smart but handy! That was my Uncle Vito.
Not only was he smart but he had a great sense of humor. He loved to play tricks on his nieces and nephews and I imagine his grandkids as well (The store is open. . .sorry, too late! The store is closed.") but despite his teasing he was kind hearted to his core.
Uncle Vito was a man who loved God, my Aunt Helen and his sons Vito, Dennis and Rick above all else yet he still had enough love left over to always be there for my parents, my brothers and sisters and I in so many ways throughout our lives.
He and my Aunt Helen prioritized faith and family throughout their lives until the day he left us and that faith was evident in many ways. Of course he never missed going to church, but it went far beyond that... taking a meal to an elderly neighbor, showing up to help when someone was in need - the things that matter most. He was the most humble man I've ever known and never wanted recognition for anything he did for others including the sacrifice fighting in World War II.
Uncle, Godfather, computer tutor, mentor, pinochle partner, friend... that's my Uncle Vito - I will miss him more than words can say.
