Mildred Louise "Millie" Melton
Oct. 13, 1938-May 3, 2022
Mildred Louise Melton, "Millie", was the daughter of Claude Edward House and Lona Claudine (Turner) House. Millie was born October 13, 1938 and departed this life on May 3, 2022.
Millie grew up in Dallas and Hickory County. She was born at Wood Hill and attended many of the one room schools. She grew up in the Cherry Grove community and spent her life there, except for a brief time when she lived at Pittsburg and attended Hermitage High School. She graduated from Tunas High School.
She was united in marriage to Dale L. Melton on February 29, 1956 and they were married 52 years. To this union three children were born, Mildred "Pud" Webb and companion Donnie McDaniel, Ronnie Melton and wife Patrice, and Donnie Melton and wife Teresa.
Dale and Millie built Melton's 64-73 Jct. convenience store in 1980 and she continued to manage the store. She also had a farm and loved to be outdoors with her cows and donkeys. Millie served on the O'Bannon Bank Holding Company Board. She looked forward to Appreciation Days and visiting with all who attended.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Christina Lynn Melton; and her brother, Vernon E. House.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Paqui House of Goose Creek, South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Norma Robbins of Phoenix, AZ; three children, Mildred "Pud" Webb and companion Donnie McDaniel, Ronnie & wife Patrice Melton, and Donnie & wife Teresa Melton; ex-son-in-law, Mike Webb; and ex-daughter-in-law Debbie Mount; nine grandchildren, Amanda Walker, Mark Webb, Ronnie Dale Melton, Kevin Webb, Lindsay Barnhouse, Rebecca Nicholson, Alicia Melton, Morgan Noblitt, and Ryan Melton; 11 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Razor. She also leaves other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022 in the New Hope Baptist Church with John Long officiating. Escorts will be Matt Hale, Donald Hicks, Mike Webb, Scott Freeman, Dennis Burns, Austin Ward, Ben Reeves, and Donnie McDaniel. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Millie, I have known you literally all my life. What these other folks have said is true, after they made you, they broke the mold. Your kind of honesty and integrity are a very rare thing in this world. Keep telling it like it is.

To all of the family of Millie, please accept my most sincere condolences on the death of Millie.
Knowing her for the past many many years and being the person she chose to take care of her hair was truly a privilege. We became friends. I loved the way she spoke what was on her mind, and didn´t mince words.
There was not another person in this world just like her. She was an original. Strong and soft all at once. I´m glad I got to know her as I did. We had many good talks and she was my " go to" for advice on how to do many things. I have missed cutting her hair the last several months during her illness. Knowing she had her family and so many good friends around her, I knew she was in such good hands. She loved being with her family and was always happy when you were all around.
Millie always wanted to work and if she couldn´t do that she was not happy. She liked to fish but after her true love died she lost interest in that.
She accomplished so much in her lifetime, more than most, by loving to work hard. She was proud of what she had been able to build. From putting in fence, baling hay, working her cattle, running her business, and being a board member of the bank, there was nothing she couldn´t do or wouldn´t try. I admired her very much for that and told her so many times.
I´m glad shes out of any pain now and in the arms of our Lord, and with the love of her life, as she surely is now. She is missed by me and will be missed by so many here in the area.
