Karen was born December 4, 1941, in Independence, the daughter of Frank and Irene (Carson) Sweeney. She grew up on the Sweeney farm west of Independence, attending the St. John's Catholic School. On May 29, 2004, she married Roxie Mulnix Jr., at the First Presbyterian Church, Independence.
She continued to be active with home projects and enjoyed bargain hunting at garage sales. Karen loved attending her grandkid's sports and dance events. She made sure to spoil her grandchildren on their annual fishing trip to Lake Osakis in Minnesota.
