Shirley Bobette Huffman

1921 - 2011

PEORIA, Ariz. - Shirley Bobette Huffman, 90, formerly of Washington, Ill., and Eureka, Ill., passed away July 1, at Sun Grove Village Care Center; Peoria, Ariz.
Shirley was born June 7, 1921 in Quasqueton to Wilda and Frank Daubenberger. She married Carl Gustav Dircks on Aug. 31, 1941; he died Jan. 4, 1962. She later married Orville Huffman on Oct. 14, 1966; he died Sept. 2, 1987.
Surviving are one sister, Maxine Oldridge (Chesteen) of Jesup; three children: James Dircks (Donna) of California, Jane Warrick (Joe) of Mackinaw, Ill., and Nancy Huckeby (Terry) of Peoria, Ariz.; seven grandchildren: Jim Dircks of Phoenix, Ariz., Jeff Dircks of Winthrop, Jolene Hoffman of Quasqueton; Kim Davis of Manchester, Mo., Brad Warrick (Leah) of Hopedale, Ill., Kelly Revels (Marty) of Gaffney, S.C., Ty Huckeby of Peoria, Ariz.; five great grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Irwin Daubenberger of Cape Coral, Fla. as well as a recently deceased grandson, John Jay Dircks of Allison.
Cremation will be accorded and a small family memorial service will be held in Quasqueton this September. Memorial donations can be made to Mackinaw United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 409, Mackinaw, Ill. 61755.
Shirley graduated from The American Institute of Commerce in Davenport. She had worked for a long time in the accounting field and was at one time office manager of Eureka College for a number of years. She was involved with Eastern Star, Community Chest, taught Sunday school, and rolled bandages and gave blood for the Red Cross during World War II.
Shirley resided in Washington, Ill. for 20 years, then Eureka, Ill. for two years and on to Lake Havasu City, Ariz. for 21 years, where the west captured her heart. She later moved to Peoria, Ariz. where she resided the last 21 years of her life.
While in her teens and attending high school, Shirley was a talented basketball player (elected county all-star player) and kittenball player. Shirley had been an avid golfer, bridge player and later in life enjoyed rubber stamping which was shared passionately with her daughters, always having at least one hobby in her life at all times. She traveled the U.S. extensively, enjoyed a trip to Europe and made many friends wherever she was. Shirley was always upbeat with a smile on her face and had a wit and sense of humor that were unsurpassed. She lived a full and happy life and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
