WILLIAM WORKMAN Obituary

WILLIAM W. WORKMAN - CORNWALL - The Workman family is saddened to announce the unexpected death of William "Bill" Wellington Workman on March 8, 2013. Bill was born Sept. 23, 1986, in Burlington. A graduate of Champlain Valley Union High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., Bill was an avid outdoorsman and athlete. He enjoyed and excelled at cycling, hiking, and mountaineering. Bill had a love of history, particularly military history, and an interest in travel, law, stone masonry, and classical and Celtic folk music. His ability to respectfully and eloquently outwit his opponent in an intellectual debate was and will remain unrivaled and provided many opportunities for laughter. His quick wit, eager smile, and wry humor will be missed by those who mourn his passing. These include his Labrador, Tain; his mother, Wenda; sister, Heather; and brother, Christopher Workman; grandmother, Bette Workman of Underhill; aunts, Cindy Lindman of California, and Sandra Workman-Miles of New York; uncles, Scott Workman of Essex Junction, William Workman of Williston, and David Workman of Burlington; their families, including his cousins; and anyone else whose life he touched with his honesty, generosity, and integrity. He will be sorely missed. Memorial services will be held at the The United Church of Underhill on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at 2 p.m.

Bill was always a man who easily earned the respect of others. Respect that was well deserved. He is engrained in my memory from the time that I was a little girl attending middle school with him until the time when our paths no longer crossed. Even then his memory always shined bright. He was the most charismatic and intelligent man of our generation I ever had the pleasure to know. I recall him being bored with school and entertaining everyone in his attempt to demonstrate his superior knowledge and wit. I can remember several teachers more than half his age left speechless because he was so eloquent with words he would leave you stunned and without rebuttal. He was a man of honor, integrity, honesty, and most of all a huge heart. He will be greatly missed, and always in our prayers. I am so sorry for the loss to his family, but in addition: I am sorry for the world to have lost such a rare soul.

Bill, (Mr. Workman as I knew him), was a student who always looked at a question, examined a philosophy, considered events and decided on an answer from a unique perspective. His path was individual; yet, his classmates (and I) were often inspired and animated by his ideas.
I wish his family and friends strength and good memories during this time.

I am so sorry for your loss. Woe to us, the ones left behind to mourn the loss of our son, friend, nephew, brother, hiking partner... How many names does he have to all of us? It seems he positively affected people in a variety of ways.

I remember him from the ER. He was a great help to us in radiology, by staying with the patient if needed, and helping us take their x-rays. He struck me as a polite and helpful guy.

He is loved and missed by many.
