Thomas Alvin Nored, age 95, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2025. He was born in August 1929 in Fort Worth, Texas, the youngest child of the late TA and Alberta Nored. In October 1952, he married Mildred Bloys, who would remain his dear friend for the rest of her life.
Alvin was well known for his generosity, words of wisdom, excellent marksmanship, knowledge of ranching, Rotarian membership, being a stickler for grammar, and, of course, his love for Dr Peppers. Little-known but significant facts about Alvin were that he flew airplanes, tooled leather, made cowboy biscuits, cooked steaks until they were like leather, was a skilled trick roper, a jack of all trades, and, in his last days, an active member of the bacon of the month club.
He was mildly disappointed in the delivery room...three times and vastly outnumbered by his girls. However, he raised them the best he could, always ensuring they could do anything a boy could and making sure they shared his love for the ranch.
At thirty-seven, with three little girls at home, he embarked on a new career in law, forever impacting his family to have the courage to "recreate" themselves at any age. He practiced law for over fifty years, retiring at ninety-one.
He was "Dad" to his three daughters, Carolyn (husband Jim), Catherine, and Jean (husband Chris); "Alvie" to his grandchildren, Nicole, Kyla (husband Jeff), Chris, John (wife Charlotte), Taylor (husband Adrian), and Sloan; and to his great-grandchildren Maverick, Jasper, Brazos, and Conley. All of whom loved him dearly and will always cherish his legacy.
For many of his fifty years practicing law, he employed Rhonda and Mary Ellen. They were his support team in every sense of the word, always going above and beyond for him.
We are particularly grateful to his "personal assistant," Shannon, for the last few years and all their shared adventures. Their special bond was unwavering. Additionally, we affectionately recognize his around-the-clock caregivers, Crystal, Cheryl, Sarah, and Miaa, for their kind and loving care. They all kept their cowboy happy, entertained, and motivated.
At a private service, he was laid in a simple pine box and lowered into his grave on Monday afternoon, April 21, 2025, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.
You can honor Alvin's life by giving generously to the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Davis (PO Box 832, Fort Davis, TX 79734 or online at
