Douglas Edward McKain

1976 - 2025

At the young age of 49, Douglas Edward McKain, of Butler, suddenly passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025.
He was born on June 10, 1976, in Butler, to David Allan and Diane Marie (Steffy) McKain of Butler.
As a boy, he played baseball and football as a member of the East Butler Bulldogs for many years, where his teammates nicknamed him "Moonman." As he grew, he was a member of the Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. until 1999, assisting with many calls in the area for more than eight years. Doug worked as a crew member of the Pennsylvania Conservation Corp, reconstructing many of the county park buildings, playgrounds and shelters, and had also been a security guard at Butler Memorial Hospital.
In his spare time, Doug avidly enjoyed bowling all his life. He accomplished his first of many "300" games in the fall of 2001, at the age of 25, and continued to play for many years, earning five more perfect games. He also enjoyed scratch-off tickets, watching football and cheering for the underdog team of the Browns, going to the casino, watching WWE and "The Golden Girls," attending many local baseball games and Pittsburgh Pirates games.
He was a 1996 graduate of Butler Area High School and married Jenny S. Whitmire in 1998. He is survived by their two daughters, Renee C. McKain and Desiree B. McKain, both of Butler. After having divorced, Doug found the last love of his life, Cathleen "Cathy" Beitch, with whom he shared the last eight years. He is also survived by his mother, Diane Marie (Steffy) McKain; brother, David McKain; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, David A. McKain; and grandparents, Gloria "Dody" and Kenneth McKain.
MCKAIN - A memorial celebration of life for Douglas Edward McKain, who died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, is being planned by his daughters from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Oneida Valley Fire Hall, 301 Oneida Valley Road, Butler. All family and friends are welcome to attend. Those wishing to join the family for lunch at noon are asked to bring a dish to share and arrive at 11 a.m. Feel free to dress casual and bright colors are welcomed.
