Frank Miller Obituary

Frank J. Miller, 86, of Renfrew, passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born May 18, 1939, in Windber, he was the son of the late Franklin G. Miller and the late Helen (Lenusky) Miller.
A graduate of Windber Area High School, Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960, stationed in Greenland for much of that time. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in education from Clarion University, where he met the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Carol (Semmens) Miller.
Frank taught for 37 years in the Butler Area School District, most of that time spent as an English teacher at the Junior High School. His good humor, positive outlook and genuine kindness led the student body to award him the title of "Favorite Teacher" on more than one occasion.
Frank was a faithful member of First English Lutheran Church. He was always eager to help friends and neighbors in need and enjoyed his volunteer work at Butler Meals on Wheels and at the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center. He was an avid bowler and a sports fan, especially of Penn State and Pittsburgh sports.
Most of all, he was a fan of his family. Nothing brought him more joy than spending holidays and summer vacations with his kids and grandkids, and he was immensely proud of his role as "Pap."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy; and a brother, James.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter, Karen Walker and husband, Lawrence, of State College; his son, Matthew Miller and wife, Heidi, of Whitehouse Station, N.J.; six grandchildren, Mitchell Walker and wife, Corrina, Hayley Miller, Jacob Miller, Thomas Miller, Maxwell Walker, and Ryan Miller. He is also survived by two sisters, Kathy Minitti and husband, Pat, of Chandler, Ariz., and Janet Jablon and husband, Bill, of Windber, and numerous nieces and nephews.
MILLER - Family and friends of Frank J. Miller, who died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North Street, Butler, PA.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St., Butler, with the Rev. Kimberly van Driel officiating. All are kindly asked to meet at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory may be made to Butler Meals on Wheels (https://butlermealsonwheels.com/) or the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center (www.butlerhealthclinic.org/donation).

Ya know, I´m 73-years-old but I remember Mr.Miller from junior high and it was because he was the kind of teacher who was in charge but never beat you over the head with it. He was a riot, very funny and a teacher who did extra bit every day, which obviously had an effect on me (and many others, I´m sure) near 60-years later. RIP sir and well done!

It was my pleasure to know Frank for over 50 years. He was great teacher, husband, father and friend. Frank was always someone you could talk to and he would give you good honest advice. His family was very fortunate to have him in their lives and he will be missed by a large number of people.
