Jane E. Kemper
Jane E. Kemper, 87, of Surrey Lane in Butler, formerly 570 Fourth St., died early Saturday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Dec. 2, 1921, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late John T. and Jane Stein Gerstner.
Jane was a 1939 graduate of Butler High School and was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler and a member of the Women's Council and Phase 2 at St. Peter's Church. She was a member of C.D. of A. Senior Court 443 in Butler and was an original member of the C.D. of A. drum and bugle corps.
Jane was a member of the Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and an active member and volunteer worker at the Tanglewood Senior Center in Butler. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and 500.
Her husband of 67 years, Ernest F. Kemper Jr., who she married Feb. 7, 1942, survives.
Also surviving are four sons and their wives, Daniel G. and Sally Kemper of Barboursville, Va., Ernest F. Kemper III and Darla Kemper of Hermitage, Joseph D. Kemper of West Kittanning, and William D. and Patty Kemper of Butler; two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Margaret) DeMask of Wilmington, N.C., and Mrs. Mary R. Purdy of Slippery Rock; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jane was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
KEMPER Friends of Jane E. Kemper, who died Saturday, April 25, 2009, will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler with Father Pierre Falkenhan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
The Women's Council of St. Peter Parish will meet at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday at the church to recite the rosary.
