John Cranmer Obituary

John B. Cranmer Jr., 97, of Butler, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, at Concordia at Cabot.
He was born on June 20, 1927, in Butler, to the late John B. Cranmer Sr. and Agnesannalena (Patterson) Cranmer.
John graduated Butler High School in 1945, and drove a milk truck for Cranmer Dairy Farm and Cranmer Bros. Ice Cream Co. He then worked for Country Belle, where he became branch/sales manager. John then served 20 years as county controller of Butler County.
John was an active member of his community, where he was a past chairman of Franklin Township Zoning and Hearing Board, and secretary and treasurer of Franklin Township Supervisors.
John was a lifelong member of Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church. He was a former elder and financial secretary for the church building fund. John also was a Sunday school teacher and choir member.
John was a member of Butler Victory Lodge 272, New Castle Consistory and Syria Shrine. He also was a member of Butler Caravan 14, and was past president of Shrine Luncheon Club. John was a treasurer of Butler Camp of Gideons International. Also, he was a past president of Kiwanis Club of Butler and Pennsylvania State County Controllers Association.
He enjoyed music such as big bands and symphonies, watching sports and spending time outdoors. Above all, John loved his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
John is survived by one daughter, Vickie (Bob) Zaccari of Valencia; one son, Eric (Andrea) Cranmer of Chicora; one daughter-in-law, Cheryll Cranmer of Greer, S.C.; one granddaughter, Kristen Zaccari; five grandsons, Tyler (Brittany) Cranmer, Austin Cranmer, Brandon (Alexandria) Cranmer, Adam (Christina) Zaccari and Zachary (Brittney) Mayes; and great-grandchildren, Skyler, Kaia, Enzo, Cianna, Oaklee, Luca, Jaxson, Kinzley and baby Mayes, due in April.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne R. (Burlbaugh) Cranmer, whom he married on June 18, 1952, and who passed away on Feb. 28, 2019; one son, Ted B. Cranmer; two brothers, Charles E. Cranmer and Clarence J. Cranmer; and three sisters, Agnes Cowan, Mary Huff and Jane Barkley.
CRANMER - Family and friends of John B. Cranmer Jr., who died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church, 727 Old Route 422 West, Butler, with retired pastor the Rev. Jeff Curtis.
A private burial will be held at Greenlawn Burial Estates.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church at 727 Old Route 422 West, Butler, PA 16001.
