Kenneth Griffiths Obituary

Kenneth E. "Ken" Griffiths, 98, of Butler, left this earthly life for eternal life with Jesus Christ his Savior, whom he loved and served for many years, on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, at Lowrie Place.
He was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County, the son of the late Albert E. and Pearl (Gold) Griffiths.
Ken graduated in 1944 from Fairview Township-Karns City High School. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and served in World War II as a medical aidman with the 37th Tank Battalion. He was awarded Bronze Service Stars for participation in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe campaigns. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed for 40 years at Sonneborn Refinery (Witco), Petrolia, as a lab technician in the wax department.
He was married to June Day Griffiths for 71 years, and she passed away on June 20, 2017. Ken and June traveled extensively after his retirement and enjoyed spending their winters as snowbirds in Fort Myers, Fla.
Ken was a member of the Whitestown Road Baptist Church, a 70-year member of the Gideons International Butler camp and a member of the American Legion Post 642. During his membership with the Gideons, he was actively involved in their prison ministry as recently as his early 90s. He also was instrumental in having an Armstrong County Gideon camp organized many years ago.
He enjoyed hunting in his early years, bowling and the Pittsburgh Pirates, regardless of if they were having a winning or losing season! Recently, he was awarded a certificate of achievement on being inducted into the Voter Hall of Fame for voting in every general election for at least 50 consecutive years.
Surviving are his daughter, Sandra K. Swank; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ken was preceded in death by an infant son, Randall Eugene; his son-in-law, Edgar Swank; his brother, Charles E. Griffiths; and a sister, Edna Mae Woodring.
GRIFFITHS - Friends of Kenneth E. "Ken" Griffiths, who died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Whitestown Road Baptist Church, 409 Whitestown Road, Butler. Pastor Bob Hurd will officiate.
