Nancy Walker

1936 - 2025

Nancy Vincent Walker passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Meadowood Retirement Community in Skippack, Pa. She was 88 years old.
Born April 24, 1936, to Dr. Fred and Mabel Vincent, Nancy was a devoted friend, loving mother and grandmother, avid reader, and lifelong learner. Nancy grew up on the corner of East Cooper and Main streets in Slippery Rock, was a 1958 graduate of Slippery Rock High School, and later a graduate of Northwestern University. As a teacher she dedicated many years to nurturing young minds, first as a junior high English teacher, and later as a nursery schoolteacher in Philadelphia, inspiring students with her warmth and kindness.
Her love of language and learning extended far beyond the classroom. A dedicated epistolarian, she wrote countless letters, notes and newsletters that kept her closely connected with friends and family near and far. Nancy was deeply committed to her community: she volunteered with Meals on Wheels, served as president of the local PTA, and was a lifelong Philadelphia Flyers fan (though she kept cheering for the Penguins as well) and supporter of the Philadelphia Orchestra - while always offering a helping hand and warm smile to friends and neighbors.
She especially cherished her role as a grandmother, bringing her "pep" and dance moves to countless sporting events, school plays and birthday parties. She organized many unforgettable family trips to the mountains and the shore. In the moments when she was sitting still, Nancy could be found relaxing in the quiet beauty of her courtyard.
She is survived by her two sons, James Lester Jr. and William Frederick; daughter-in-law, Patricia; brother and sister in-law, Fred and Kathleen Vincent; cousin, Edna Mae Tissue; and her four beloved grandchildren, Kathryn, Ben, John and Matthew.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James L. Walker Sr. of Oakmont, Pa.
A private memorial will be held to honor her life.
Nancy cherished her Slippery Rock friendships and family for her entire life, and her kindness, wisdom and cheerful smile will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
