They say that a true friend is never truly gone. Their spirit lives on in the memories of those who loved them.
There are thousands of former students, colleagues that loved Pete - I was only one of many - and I know the memories of times with him will stay with me always. He was a fabulous teacher and later a dear friend who inspired me throughout my career. He was always excited about some new book or antique or experience and I enjoyed every time I saw him because he could make me laugh over almost anything. Rest well, my friend.

Peter Mantzaris was a gentleman, a scholar, and a master teacher. In his tweed jackets and refined ties, he expressed his love of literature, especially Shakespeare, on the stage of his classroom. And he conveyed that passion with humor, insight, and wit. But he was never stuffy enough to smoke a pipe. No, not that. He was never pretentious enough to think he could change the world. And yet, that he did. He brought literature alive, influenced countless students to appreciate language, and inspired many toward education, writing, and the arts. Dapper, classy, and caring - yet scrutinizing when needed - he devoted his life to his work and students. He was intelligent, genuine, and kind. Peter made a tremendous difference to those he taught and mentored. Butler High School, our community, and the world were better places for his presence. I am better because he was my teacher, my colleague, and my friend. Farewell and rest in peace.

To the friends and family of Peter Mantzaris. I have no words to express the sympathy I feel right now. I have been planning on coming home to Butler to visit and Peter would have been one of my stops. A wonderful man, teacher and inspiration he was to so many. RIP my good friend.

Sending many thoughts and condolences to the Mantzaris family. Mr. Mantzaris lit a flame in me and instilled a love for literature that still burns bright to this day. To be a student in his class was truly a privilege. "Good night sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Mr. Mantzaris was such a fantastic teacher. I enjoyed his class immensely. He had traveled to so many of the places we read about in British Lit and he made it so interesting. I looked forward to that class every day. I ran into him a few times at the bookstore years later. He remembered me well and was genuinely interested in how I was doing. He was one of my favorite teachers.

I talked about him alot he was such a great teacher. He made Shakespeare fun. Loved going outside and sitting under the tree for class. Now you get to meet Shakespeare and you two can talk about everything. Fly with the Angels.

Pete was an outstanding teacher, colleague and friend. I would sometimes eavesdrop, standing outside his classroom door, so that I could improve my teaching technique. Of course, I learned many things on other subjects during our lunches with a particularly raucous group of beloved colleagues.
