SAATHOFF Daniel Paul Saathoff, 27, beloved grandson, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at his home in Portland, Texas on Saturday, November 13, 2010.Born September 14, 1983 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Daniel is the son of Alvin Mathis Saathoff and Birdie Sue Saathoff and the brother of Matthew John Saathoff. He had a great spirit and was loved by everyone he met. As a young boy, he enjoyed making donuts with his dad, spending time with his brother and being a shopping companion for his mom. He also enjoyed watching and playing sports, hunting, fishing, surfing and hanging out with friends including Zach Stein, Marshal Davidson, Daniel Poenisch and family. Daniel especially liked to play video games with his brother and was Best Man at his wedding in 2001. He graduated from Gregory Portland High School with honors in 2002, where he played basketball, baseball and trumpet in the band. Daniel went on to Texas A&M University, College Station where he graduated in 2007 with a BA in Business Economics. After graduating from Texas A&M, Daniel worked as Comptroller for JM Davidson, Inc. Daniel was a 3rd Degree member of the Portland Knights of Columbus and served as an Alter boy for many years at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.Daniel's love for adventure and travel took him around the Unites States and abroad. He visited family and friends in Austin, Los Angeles and Las Vegas before he set off for Fiji and New Zealand. Upon his return home, he continued to influence the lives of his nieces and most especially his nephew. Daniel was always willing to assist his older brother in coaching his nephews and nieces in many sports throughout his young life. Daniel always took time out for his family and was never judgmental. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Mathis Saathoff and Paul Sutherland and his grandmother, Martha Sutherland.Daniel is survived by his father and mother, Alvin and Birdie Saathoff, his brother Matthew Saathoff, sister-in-law Jamie Saathoff, nephew, Tyler, his two nieces, Julianne and McKenzie, his grandmother, Wilfreen Saathoff, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday November 17, 2010 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1003 Austin Street with Monsignor Mark Chamberlin officiating. A reception will follow Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish Hall.
