David Askew Obituary

David Rex Askew Corpus Christi , TXDavid Rex Askew, 51, of Corpus Christi, Texas and formerly of Plymouth died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at his residence in Corpus Christi.Born September 28, 1962 in Washington County he was the son of the late Murry H. 'Bill' Askew and Dorothy Smithwick Askew who survives. Rex was as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist with Naval Air Station, CCAD, Corpus Christi. He served 20 years and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Deputy Fire Chief. During his military service he served in Desert Storm, The Gulf War and Iraqi Freedom. After his retirement from the Air Force he was an Emergency Management Director for Warren County before moving to Corpus Christi.His family includes his mother, Dorothy Smithwick Askew of Plymouth, North Carolina; son, David Niel Askew and wife Carrie of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter, Laura Askew Vargas and husband Yeshua of Rio Grande, Puerto Rico; brother, Phil R. Askew of Plymouth, North Carolina; sisters, Linda Carol Markham of Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Dorothy Gail Cornwell of Williamston, North Carolina and eight grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth with Pastor Steve Creech officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his mother. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth. Condolences may be made to the family at www.maitlandfuneralhome.com.
