Devry Murgatroyd Obituary

Diamond Girl, you sure do shine. Oh my love, you’re like a precious stonePart of earth where heaven has rained on Makes no difference where you are Day or nighttime, you’re like a shinin’ star Diamond Girl - roamin’ wild, Such a rare thing - radiant child I will never find another one like you... On September 8th, 2006, a void was created in this world. The precious spirit of our wonderful mother, wife, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend left this world to dance on the streets of gold with her Uncle Sammy and Big Daddy who await her in heaven along with numerous other loved ones. Devry Orrick Murgatroyd was born on January 1st, 1966 the daughter of Chris Salem-Carr and William Alan (Bill) Orrick. She was a dancer that lifted every human encounter to the dance with her just by the sound of her laughter. Oh, and laugh, she did. So infectious was Devry’s laughter that the sound compelled the hearer to join in the dance with her. No one walked away from Devry without a smile. Attending St. Pius Elementary School and graduating from W .B. Ray High School in 1984 she was given the honor of Homecoming Queen, Most Popular Girl and Sr. Favorite Girl. She was a cheerleader 3 years and Head Cheerleader during her Senior Year. In subsequent years, she returned to W .B. Ray as advisor/consultant to help coordinate the Cheerleading Squad. She attended Southwest Texas State University and was enrolled in Del Mar College at the time of her death to complete her course of study in Radiology. Dev worked throughout her life at her family’s business, Salem’s Jewelers, and is a past employee of HEB. Devry was a hippie-gypsy soul that exuded light as she passed your way. Her all-encompassing love was focused primarily on her son, Myles, husband Billy and loving canine companions "Rocco & Bear." In her short time with us, Devry was a Champion City Softball League Pitcher, accomplished bowler, jeweler, and avid Gulf Coast shell collector. She was preceded in death by her "Uncle Sammy," Sam Salem II, her Grandfather "Big Daddy", Joe Salem, Sr., her "Unc" Emil Habeeb, paternal Grandmother, Margaret Orrick, Aunt Sandra Orrick, and dear friend Anthony Hernandez. She leaves behind her adoring son, Myles Edward Hernandez, loving husband Billy Murgatroyd, mother and step father, Chris Salem & James W. Carr, father and step mother W. A. (Bill) and Hattie Orrick, Grandmother and inspiration, Christine Salem, her very special Aunt Lillie (Bob) Sharp, her Aunt/Godmother Marie Habeeb, Uncle/Godfather Joe Salem, Jr. (Sarah), Aunt Mary (Sam II) Salem, Godson Sam Salem III, Uncle Richard Orrick, Step Sister Laurie McCartney-Warden and step mother Yvonne (Al,) Nelson along with nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends too numerous to count. Visitation will be held from Tuesday, September 12, 2006, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2006, with Msgr. Richard Shirley as celebrant. Burial will follow in Seaside Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Joe Lopez, Ray Cortez, Butch Boggess, Trey Molina, Stephen Okiniwski, Emil Habeeb II, Mike Harris, Richard Ochoa. Alternates: John Salem, William Price Salem. Goodnight, Sweet Heart, Goodnight.
