John Hudson Obituary

John Allen Hudson, loving father, grandfather, and husband; former Chief Electrical Inspector for the City of Corpus Christi; longtime advocate and volunteer in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease; and veteran of the Texas National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve died March 2, 2006, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 71. John was born in San Antonio Nov. 10, 1934. He moved to Corpus Christi in 1965. He was a State Licensed Master Electrician and worked for the city for 32 years, retiring in 1997 as Chief Electrical Inspector. John was an active member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors for more than 34 years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Coastal Bend Alzheimer's Association. John was a longtime parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He and his wife, Mary, were also members of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Hudson; sister, Ann Bickford; wife, Patricia Hudson; and infant son, Joseph Allen. He is survived by his wife, Mary K. Hudson of Corpus Christi, Texas, and her family of Beeville, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, John and Tileena Hudson of Missouri City; daughter and son-in-law, Dana and John Lennan of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Dan Yoxall of Georgetown, Texas; sister-in-law Rosalind Carpenter of Oak Harbor, Washington; brother-in-law Terry McComack of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother-in-law, Marvin "Bud" Bickford of Tivoli; grandchildren, Matthew Hudson, Heather Hudson, Ryan Lennan, Simone Yoxall, Meredith Yoxall, and Flannery Yoxall; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins; many dear friends in Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend; and respected former colleagues at the City and in the local electrical industry.The Hudson family would like to express appreciation for the kindness and professional care given over the years to John by Drs. Teresa Albright, William Burgin, Patricia A. Cantu, James Dinn, and Yvonne Manalo and their wonderful staffs; Coastal Bend Cancer Center; Angels Care Home Health, especially Nurse Teresa Hunter and Nurse Lisa Alphin; and VistaCare Hospice, especially Nurse John Baird, Nurse Evelyn Stassel, and Spiritual Care Coordinator Cherie Hopkins. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home, 1222 Morgan Avenue, Corpus Christi, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5620 Gollihar Road, Corpus Christi, Msgr. Richard Shirley, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Coastal Bend Alzheimer's Association and St. Pius X Catholic Church. John will be remembered for his ethical and fair approach to life, business, and everyone he met, his sense of humor, the practical jokes, his warm heart, and great barbecue ribs. We will miss him dearly.
