Corpus Christi, TX

Dr. Perez, 58, (born in Havana Cuba on May 13, 1958) passed away suddenly from an unexpected illness on March 23, 2017 at a local hospital in Houston, Texas.

He is survived by two teenage sons, Jose Perez, Jr and Christopher Joe Perez; former wife, Veronica Perez-Phillips of Corpus Christi, Texas; nephew Carl Mathews, Niece, Arely Mathews of Corpus Christi, Texas; Arissa & Aiden Benavides of Corpus Christi, Texas; his mother, Dora Perez of Islin, New Jersey; sister, Mayra Lopez (Luis) of Islin, New Jersey; brother, Jesus "Jay" Perez (Colleen) of Houston, Tx; uncle, Jose Fernandez (Clara); one niece and four nephews, and three cousins as well as their children.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus Perez of Elizabeth, New Jersey; grandparents Celestino and Oliva Perez of Havana Cuba; grandfather Jose Fernandez of Havana Cuba and grandmother Narcissa Fernandez of Islin, New Jersey. Nephew, A.J. Benavides of Alice, Texas.

After graduating from Rutger's University he attended medical school at Univeridad Autonomous of Guadalajara in Mexico and completed his Fifth Pathway in Puerto Rico. He studied at Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Montifiore, and Beth Israel in New York where he obtained his Fellowship.

Dr. Perez practiced medicine in Belle Glade, Florida, and Pahokee, Florida where he met his wife, Veronica, they were married on August 12, 1996 at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Dr. Perez was recruited by Alice Regional Hospital in 2001 from Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri and established a 16 year practice in Alice, Texas where he treated patients at Spohn Alice and several hospitals in Corpus Christi, including Spohn South, Spohn Shoreline, Bay Area, Doctor's Regional and Post Acute Medical.

Visitation will be from 5-9pm, Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7: 00pm that same evening.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm, Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

Dr. Perez was the kindest most careing men I ever knew. He saved my husband's life several times. I count myself blessed and my life enriched having known him. May he finally get some rest.
