JUAN R. CANALS passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in a Corpus Christi hospital at the age of 78. He was born in Kingsville, Texas February 27, 1930 to Pedro Canals and Emilia Rodriguez Canals who preceded him in death. Juan enlisted in the Army in 1948 and served over four years during the Korean War, during which time he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with a silver campaign star. Following his honorable discharge from the Army he continued to serve our country in the National Guard until his retirement after 20 years of combined service. Juan moved to Ingleside, Texas in 1962 and began working at Reynolds Aluminum ? San Patricio Plant as steel worker until his retirement. He was an active member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Ingleside, Texas and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of the VFW Post 6386 in Ingleside, Texas and was a past commander. In addition to his church, family and VFW activities he was a volunteer fireman for the Ingleside Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed playing "Santa" in the annual Christmas parade for many years. In addition to his parents Juan was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarita Canals in 1995. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Eva Canals of Ingleside, Texas; son, Juan Canals Jr. of Glenwood, Arkansas; three daughters, Diana Canals of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Lucia (Russ Lienbach) Canals of West Linn, Oregon and Rita (Raymond) Guerrero of Ingleside, Texas; five grandchildren, Jonathon Canals, Nicholas Figueroa, Sarah Guerrero, Sabrina and Sarita Lienbach; 3 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2008 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home Chapel ? Aransas Pass, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Ingleside with Fr. Tom Wellar as celebrant.
