Manuel C. Solis Sr.

Mr. Manuel C. Solis Sr. a life long resident of San Diego, Texas was born on September 14, 1903 and died early hours Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at his residence in San Diego, his loving and caring family were by his side, he was 100 years old. He was born and raised in San Diego, Texas. He attended San Diego High School, and was very active in sports. Mr. Solis was a member of St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church, a member of the Cursillista Movement, and a very active member of the Mutualistas organization. He was very proud to have been presented with a plaque by the Mutualisas, just after celebrating his 100th Birthday, for being the oldest Mutualista member. Mr. Solis worked as a Notary Public, a service that he provided till he was in his late 80's. He also worked for the Duval County Clerk's office and later inspired to run for public office. He ran and was elected to the office of the Duval County Treasurer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elida S. Solis, a daughter, Esperanza Solis, a son, Zenon Damian Solis, parents, Rafael Solis, Sr. and Cipriana Arismendes Solis and nine brothers, Lucas, Alvino, Canuto, Gil, Estanislado, Roberto, Pedro, Juan and Rafael Solis. He is survived by: Three Sons: Manuel C. (Claudia) Solis, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Zenon F. (Ricarda) Solis of San Diego, Texas, Martin E. (Juanita) Solis of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Four Daughters: Virginia S. (Nemesio) Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Consuelo S. Saenz of San Diego, Texas, Hilda S. (Felipe) Ramirez of San Diego, Texas, Idolina S. (Roel R.) Garcia of San Diego, Texas; 30 Grandchildren, 59 Great Grandchildren, seven Great Great Grandchildren, Numerous Loving nieces and nephews. The Solis Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Cecil M. Bourne and his staff, also to the V.A. Home Health and their staff, to Christus Spohn Hospice and to Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home, Inc. for taking care of our loved one in such a very special way. May God Bless all of you. The Solis family will be receiving friends at 3:00pm on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego with the Rosary being recited at 7:00pm that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church and burial will follow at the San Diego, Cemetery. Mauro P.
