Marcos Gonzalez Obituary

Marcos Gonzalez, a World War II veteran and machinist, died Oct. 18, 2004. He was 79. Marcos had a lengthy military career, serving in the Navy, Army and Air Force. While in the Navy he served on the U.S.S. Lexington and was aboard ship when it was bombed at Pearl Harbor. He continued his tour on the second ship christened the Lexington as a gunner in the Pacific Theater and received a Victory Medal for his service. Marcos is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Sara Gonzalez and two sisters, Guadalupe Gonzalez and Rebecca Zundt. Survivors include two daughters, Zina Zamora (Albert) of Corpus Christi and Sandra McNeil (Kelly) of Austin; two brothers, Juan Gonzalez of Boise, Idaho and Eleuterio Gonzalez of Corpus Christi; a sister, Esperanza Zundt (Emilio) of Corpus Christi; three grandsons, Albert Zamora Jr. of Corpus Christi and Daniel and Travis McNeil of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Thursday at Trevino Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to the staff of Retama Retirement Center for their compassion and kindness during the last days of Marcos's life
