Shawn Adam Wilkey, 24, gained his Heavenly wings on Thursday, March 30, 2017 with his parents by his side. Born on May 4, 1992 to Jimmy and Margaret Wilkey in Corpus Christi, Texas as a special needs angel, he spent many days at Driscoll Children's Hospital. Shawn and his parents never settled for what the doctors said that he would be able to do. He endured many surgeries and continued to strive until 2014 when he caught a virus that placed him in a wheelchair. He struggled from that point on and never was able to return to walking. Due to a long and strong process to cure a staph infection, it broke his body down that weakened him to a point of no return.

A graduate of Tuloso-Midway High School in 2014, he enjoyed participating in Special Olympics and received many medals in bowling, track and field, swimming and basketball.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Herschback, Sr.

He is survived by his parents, Jimmy and Margaret (Herschback) Wilkey; two brothers, Louis (Katie) and Christian; niece, Raylin; nephew, Ryder; best friend, Erik Thomas; great grandpa, Milton (Nancy) Miller; paternal grandparents, Jim and Pearl Wilkey and Irma and Mike Spaulding; maternal grandmother, Sue Herschbach; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A very special thank you to his nurses and therapist that have been caring for him for the past three years, we will be forever indebted to you for your compassion. We would also like to thank each and everyone that helped/contributed in any way to Shawn's benefits and to the Go Fund Me Account.

Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 3, 2017 in Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Annaville Baptist Church, 4025 Violet Road, Corpus Christi, Texas, with Bro. Robert Simmons and Bro. Ronnie Watson officiating.
