Thomas Z. Cantu

CANTU Thomas Z. Cantu, age 88, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011 in Corpus Christi, Texas.Thomas was born February 23, 1923 to Tomas and Caretina Cantu. He graduated from Corpus Christi High School. Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1941 to 1945. He was employed into the automotive business since 1960 and then he started Tom Cantu Motors in 1973. Thomas enjoyed participation as a Charter Member of Dr. Hector P. Garcia GI Forum Chapter No. 1, Kiwanis, VFW, and the Mexican Chamber of Commerce and was once invited by Harry Truman to attend a conference on children. He will always be remembered for his love of laughter, service in the community and his devotion to his family. Thomas was a 'PEOPLES PERSON'. He sponsored many Little Miss Kickball League teams for girls. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Henry, Frank, Gilbert, three sisters Hope, Charlotte and Leonor.Thomas is survived by his wife, Claudia; daughters Cynthia Brown of Houston, Texas, Catherine Hiller of Seattle, Washington, Christine Magill; his son Tomas of Rochester, Minnesota; his sisters Kay and Aurora; 8 grandchildren Heather Harper, Boerne, Texas, Peter Brown, Houston, Texas, Alex Hiller of New York, New York, Marissa Hiller of New York, New York, Jack Parsons of Euless, Texas, Michelle Parsons, Corpus Christi, Texas, Tehya Cantu, Austin, Texas, Zoe Cantu, Rochester, Minnesota; 2 great grandchildren Jackson and Sophia Harper, Boerne, Texas.Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Seaside Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.Interment will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Research.To view Tribute, please visit www.seasidefuneral.com
