Beverly Shelton Obituary

Beverly Lane (Freeman) Shelton Beverly Lane Freeman Shelton, 89, of Phoenix, Arizona, died peacefully at home on January 31, 2026. She was born on July 14, 1936, in Cameron, Texas.

Beverly was raised on a small ranch in Cameron and in early life was a superb equestrian. Her love of horses later expanded to a love of all animals, and she volunteered for and contributed generously to various animal-related charities throughout her long life. Her preference in adopted pets always leaned toward strays and other lovable "misfits".

Beverly was graduated from the University of Houston in 1958 with a degree in elementary education. It was there that she cultivated a passion for modern dance, at which she excelled. She was a sister of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and met her future husband, Cecil B. 'Bob' Shelton, Jr., during those years. Although she never taught formally, her warmth and creativity made her a natural teacher for her children, and she quietly brought those same qualities to everything she pursued.

In particular, Beverly was an accomplished cook who delighted in preparing meals for family, to the point where neighborhood friends of her young son eagerly anticipated dinner invitations. A formative stay in Nantes, France broadened her culinary horizons and deepened her appreciation for good food, as well as for travel throughout Europe.

Beverly could often be found reading one of the "cozy" mysteries she loved. She also enjoyed amassing unusual collections, such as matchbooks, offbeat cookbooks, and a superb array of antique candlestick holders. Later in life she took up tap dancing, thus returning full circle to her earlier passion for dance.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bob Shelton, who died in December 2025.

She is survived by her son, Kevin; her daughter, Stacy; her grandson, Kevin Brandon Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

Per Beverly's wishes, there will be a graveside service at Little River Cemetery in Cameron, Texas, to be arranged. For those who are so inclined, donations in Beverly's name to animal-related charities are encouraged.
