Arthur "Art" David Salmen
Arthur "Art" David Salmen, age 82, of Canton, OH, passed away in Surprise, AZ on Tuesday, September 25, 2007. Arthur is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vivian R. (Potts) Salmen; daughter, Patricia (Richard) Westover of Ashtabula, OH; two sons, Michael (Vickie) Salmen of Northridge, CA and Greg Salmen of Canton; three stepdaughters, Betty (Jeff) Susbauer of Cleveland, Kathleen (James) Dixon of Surprise, AZ, Nancy Stovall of Salt Lake City, UT; stepson, Robert (Nancy) Potts of Enon, OH; brother, Robert (Joanne) of Louisville, OH; sister, Rosemary (Bill) Knight of Eastman, GA. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him. Born in Massillon, OH on November 17, 1924 to the late Regina and John Salmen. He was predeceased by his brothers, John, Paul, Will, Emil, Henry, Albert, Harold and sister, Agnes. Art was a 1942 graduate of Timken Vocational High School. After graduation he joined the Army and became a paratrooper. Wounded while serving in the South Pacific during World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked for the United States Postal Service in Canton as an electrical maintenance technician and retired in 1986. At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral service. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Charitable contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Alzheimer's Association, or charity of your choice.
