Laura Lee, (My sister) and her 6 beautiful children:
Every summer when I would come up to visit for one reason or another, Chuck would always say "Come back anytime you want." I never once left without him telling me that. He was truly one in a million. YOU are STRONG and your children are strong. He is watching over you and is with you and the kids. I'm so sorry for your loss as the whole community is.
On a different note, I surely will miss seeing this BIG man in his LITTLE green car~
I love you all.

Dear Steiner Family,
Words cannot express how we felt upon learning about your dad/husband. We will always remember what a great and friendly man Chuck was. His booming voice and infectious smile.... and always a pleasant word and conversation. We enjoyed seeing Adam at Zak's graduation party last year and then seeing Allyson at the East/West football game last summer....Your entire family will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Steiner Family,
Chuck was my position coach at GlenOak for two years and he taught me more than how to block and tackle. He taught me to respect people and that I can do what ever I put my mind to. I have never forgotten him or the lessons he taught me both on and off the field.
You have my deepest sympathy and he is now in a better place and always on the sideline coaching his "kids".

Dear Steiner Family,
I so am very sorry for your loss. I first knew him as Mr. Steiner as a student, and later as Chuck when I taught with him. He was one of the most kind hearted people I've ever met, always greeting you with a smile and a sincerity that was unsurpassed. All I can keep saying is there weren't many men of his caliber left in the world. It was truly a privlage to have gotten to know him. The shock that resonated through the community on the news and the outpouring of people who came to pay their respects is a testament to how much he meant to so many people, and how many lives he touched. It is without a doubt easy to say that his memory and legacy will not be forgotten anytime soon! My thoughts and prayers will be with your family.

Dear Steiner Family: There are people woven in and out of my life's tapestry that have left a huge impact on me and have made me who I am. Although its been 28 years since he coached me (Class of '81), Coach Steiner still makes my short list of those who have had the greatest impact. If as a father & husband he was half the tenacious, caring, loving, and humorous coach and mentor that he was to us...well, one couldn't wish to be much more!

Dearest Seiner Family,
I played at GlenOak the first year Coach Steiner was there. I can still remember him flipping his ball cap around and taking on the guys in full pads to show how the blocking was done correctly. None of the players ever got passed him. He was responsible for getting three of us scholarships with his former coach from Morehead, who moved on to a college in West Virginia. Thirty-three years later I can say that my successful business career is because he took the time to assist us in pursuing a college education. Coach Steiner will be missed by many but forgotten by no one.

I WILL NEVER FORGET MY BROTHER, CHUCK, FOR ALOT OF REASONS BUT HERE ARE JUST A FEW:
WE WOULD COME HOME FROM SCHOOL EACH DAY AND CHUCK WOULD RAID THE PICKLE JAR. HE WOULD PUT A PICKLE IN EACH POCKET AND IN ONE HAND BEFORE RUNNING OUTSIDE TO PLAY FOOTBALL OR BASKETBALL AT THE PLAYGROUND ACROSS THE STREET FROM OUR HOUSE.
THERE WERE TIMES WE WOULD HAVE DISAGREEMENTS BUT LET SOMEONE ELSE PICK ON US OR BE RUDE TO US AND THAT PERSON WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH ALL THE "STEINER BROTHERS".
THE NIGHT WE ALL SAT AROUND THE FAMILY KITCHEN TABLE WITH THE MOREHEAD ST. U. COACHES AS CHUCK SIGNED A 4 YR. FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP. WE MADE SURE THAT HE WAS GETTING A FULL RIDE EVEN IF HE WOULD GET HURT AND BE UNABLE TO PLAY.
THE TIMES WE WORKED AT THE CITY REC. DEPT. EACH SUMMER. WHEN WE CAME HOME FOR LUNCH, CHUCK WOULD FALL ASLEEP ON THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR AND I WOULD HAVE TO THREATEN HIM TO GET HIM UP. I DID HAVE TO LEAVE HIM ONCE.
I REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING CHUCK PLAY FOOTBALL AT MOREHEAD ST. U. AND HIS BRIEF STINT WITH THE BUFFALO BILLS AND LATER, WATCHING HIM COACH GLENOAK FOOTBALL GAMES. I ESPECIALLY ENOYED THE VISITS WITH MY MOTHER, DOROTHY, TO MALVERN WHEN CHUCK LIVED THERE. WE WOULD GO UP FOR A WEEK-END OR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND BRING PIZZA, CHICKEN, AND WATERMELON. THE ENTIRE FAMILY WOULD GREET US AT THE DRIVEWAY AND MAYBE TWO OR THREE CHILDREN WOULD MEET US AT THE TOP OF THE HILL. WE ALWAYS HAD GREAT FUN AND I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH THESE MEMORIES.
TO LAURA, MEGAN, ALLYSON, ADAM, KAYLEE, TAYLOR ROSE, AND JAKE, I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH AND WILL BE HERE IF YOU NEED ME. LIVE YOUR LIVES THE WAY THAT YOUR HUSBAND/DAD DID - FULL OF LIFE. MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE TO DO. ALL MY LOVE AND MAY GOD WATCH OVER YOU AND KEEP YOU SAFE. ED AND LINDA STEINER AND FAMILY.

Life is like a beautiful tapestry. God, the weaver, skillfully weaves each thread. Yet, there seems to be no sense to the tapestry's underside with its crisscrossing and unsightly knots. From above, however, God works each thread in perfect order and the tapestry is magnificent to behold. Right now, we see life from the bottom of the tapestry. Like the paths of the threads, the events in our lives often make no sense. But someday we will see the magnificent tapestry of life from above...and then we will understand. I hope this brings comfort to you and your family.
I think from the sounds of it, Charles was the gold thread God needed for one of the stars in his picture. God Bless your family to get you through this.

Dear Laura & Megan, Allison, Adam, Kaylee, Taylor and Jake - It was with great sadness that I learned of Chuck's passing. I loved him. He was once my coach, but as life went on he became a friend. I always looked forward to seeing him. I will miss greatly that big smile and the bear hug I always got when I saw him. So you know, we rarely talked football although we both have a great passion for the game. Rather, he always wanted to talk about his kids and wanted to know how mine were doing. He loved all of you very much. He will be missed, but many are better for having known him.

Dear Laura & Megan, Allison, Adam, Kaylee, Taylor, & Jake
Words cannot express our sympathy during this difficult time. Our hearts are broken for you. We have so many fond memories, that makes us laugh as well as cry, of working and coaching with Chuck. I left coaching in Georgia for my first Stark County coaching job at GlenOak High School, and a big burley coach headed my way the first day I arrived, I thought to maybe intimidate me – but instead he broke into a huge smile and became one of my long time coaching friends. At a coaches’ party one night, with that huge smile, Chuck confided to us that he had a “duck in the oven.” Who knew then of the number of little ducks to follow! Chuck never hesitated to talk proudly of Laura as the love of his life and his 6 blessings. Laura, your marriage is a testimony to both of you, and Chuck’s life is a reminder for us all to treasure daily those people we hold dear. We feel blessed to have known Chuck Steiner.

Dad,
You were the best! I will never ever let you slip out of my mind! I am going to keep working hard at what you always told me.. you hope i do grow up and become a Dentist! That is going to happen someday in the near future because i have my mind totally set on accomplishing it! Well I remeber just last week we were sitting at Adam's signing and you were right there by me and you said to me "Kaylee I really like your hair how your wearing it today" well i am wearing it like that for the next couple days just for you! The morning you were going in the hospital i heard you wake up and i heard you werent doing to good and then i heard you and mom leave i regret not getting out of bed to see what was going on becuase i would have got to talk to you and give you a hug! But there was no way i didnt think i wasnt going to see you again! I will never forget saturday as you were going to bed you came and in my room and told me you loved me and goodnight! I never knew that was the said time i would hear your voice! Dad that was so hard for me at the hospital to see you like that! Dad we are still going to attend every football just like we always do because thats our life and thats how i grew up and it just cant stop!!! Dad you were the person who always joke around with me! We were always goofing off and i had a blast and i will never forget it! Even though you got the last words every time..because you just had that sercet talent of dogging me and i never had anything to say! I dont have that person anymore to joke around with because you know mom takes everything so serious! Also Meg, Tay, and me keep thinking back to staurday night when we were all in my room and we had music on and you came in all a sudden in your boxers and starting dancing that was so funny you made us laugh so hard! And that song you were dancing to is now YOUR song! I LOVE YOU DAD! I TOTALLY MISS YOU A TON! i have learned so much from you! I WIL MAKE YOU PROUD!

Laura and family,
My sincerest sympathies to all of you. I had the fortune of meeting Chuck while playing football for Glenoak in 1985. He was so passionate about his work as a coach and it transcended to his caring about all players both on and off the field. His intensity was always justified by his desire to mold high school boys into young men. Often times his methods required a verbal lashing, many of which I am sure can still be heard over the practice field at Firestone road. Nevertheless, he had the upmost respect of all those he mentored. As the late Robert Commings would say, Chuck did it "his way". In today's self-absorbed world, people like Chuck were a breath of fresh air. He was genuine, hard working and truly tough. I respected him for all those things and the world will be lesser without him in it. We have lost an excellent football coach, a friend and a teacher. My prayers go out to the entire Steiner family.

Dear Steniner Family,
I knew Chuck threw my dad and Adam, and I always loved to see him and spend time with him. To the Steiner family,
I want to extend my deepest sympathy to your family. To lose a parent this prematurely is the hardest thing a child will ever go through. I never met Mr. Steiner, but Megan is a close friend of mine. After reading all the kind words written here, I can see where Megan gets her radiant personality. Even never having met your whole family, it's evident just from knowing Megan how close you all are. Please look to each other and God during this difficult time and know that there are countless people praying for all of you.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God bless your family as you mourn the loss of such a clearly remarkable husband, father, son, brother, coach, and friend.

We are so in shock & feeling of great loss but so blessed to have known Chuck & always remember him. Our Jacob is so much a part of your family & we are so glad that on his leave from Iraq that he was able to visit with Chuck this past weekend. We will remember him ice fishing with his great children (the last few times we saw him at the lake) & visiting with him..seeing him in the little green car that this great burly man drove to work everyday when he lived at Lake Mohawk! :)..
Our hearts break with you and may God hold you closely & watch over each of you every minute of everyday. Our love & prayers are with you all.

As a neighbor at Lake Mohawk, I soon realized Chuck was more than sports, coaching, teaching and parenting. To listen to him describe the taste of fried winter bluegill and crappie was to listen to a poet. Nothing could be that perfect. Then one day he brought some freshly fried catch of the day. It was heaven. However, not Chuck, but his family caught it he told me. I mourn this man and pray for Laura and the children.

Dear Steiner family - I remember coach Steiner coming into my gym class back in 1977 when we were using the trampoline. I was 5'8' inches and weighed about 140 pounds at the time. He decided to get on the trampoline with me to jump. Let me tell you I never came so close to touching the ceiling of the gym in my life as he bounced me. What I remember most about him was his smile. He always had one. He always had a comment to make, whether funny or just to say hi. He always noticed you and to an insecure Sophomore in High School that was huge. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. There is no telling how many lives he touched over the years. Hang on to God, each other and your memories.
