Clair Good Obituary

Clair Benjamin Good

age 76, of Dalton, died suddenly on Friday, January 15, 2021, at his home in Dalton.

Clair was born on December 28, 1944, in Dalton, to Willard and Valley (Horst) Good, graduated from Dalton High School in 1963, and did volunteer service in Portland, OR for several years. He returned to Wayne County and married Eileen Wenger on September 15, 1968, at the Wenger Family Farm in Dalton. Eileen survives.

He worked for Wenger Excavating in Dalton in several different capacities for the last 50 years. More recently, he was able to pursue his lifelong passion of farming and many new business projects that fueled his sense of adventure. Clair was a faithful member of Kidron Mennonite Church where he sang in the choir and served as an usher. He took a hurricane relief mission trip to Honduras with Central American Medical Outreach (CAMO). Some of his favorite times were spent collecting maple sap and making syrup with his family. Following and supporting his grandchildren in all their different activities gave him great joy. Faith and his family were his priorities and he always made sure his family knew how important they were to him.

In addition to his wife, Eileen, he is survived by children, Andrew (Kara) Good, Tiffany (Jerry) Good Witmer, and Elizabeth (Joe) Good Knutson, all of Dalton; four grandchildren, Brendan and Katie Good, and Sarah and Ben Witmer, all of Dalton; six siblings, Wilbur (Janet) Good of Clinton, Edith (Paul) Horst of Williamsburg, KY, Catherine (Ralph) Miller of Plain City, Melvin (Doreen) Good of Dalton, Mark (Louella) Good of Dalton, and Margaret (John) Yoder of Sugarcreek; a brother-in-law, Don (Bonnie) Showalter of Sarasota, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Verna Good and Marilyn Showalter.

Private family services will be held, with Pastor Carl Wiebe officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dalton Local Schools, Clair Good Memorial Fund, 177 N. Mill Street, Dalton, Ohio 44618 or Wayne County Community Foundation, Clair Good Memorial Fund, 517 N. Market Street, Wooster, Ohio 44691, to be established in his honor with funds used to support our local community. Online registry and expressions of condolence may be made at www.aublefuneralhome.com.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Clair and Eileen are role models to many. I greatly admire the way that they have cultivated a great, close knit family while at the same time giving to others. It is not uncommon to see Clair and Eileen, along with all three of the children and their families enjoying one of the grandkid’s events, even if it is a youth basketball game. Clair is a mainstay at his grandkids events and is always a friendly face in the crowd. Andy, Tiffany, and Liz are all such kind and caring people and I know that each are grieving at this time. Good family, you are in the thoughts of many people during this time
