Dorothy DeVille Obituary

Dorothy Irene (Myer) DeVille
July 14, 1919 – April 11, 2014
Dorothy passed away peacefully Friday evening at the age of 94, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born in Canton, Ohio on July 14, 1919 to Walter and Irene Myer. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1937. After graduation she was employed by Gasser's Jewelers in downtown Canton, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray C. DeVille (March 21, 2012), with whom she celebrated 71 years of marriage. Dorothy's brother Don Myer and sister Theresa Whitmer also preceded her in death. Dorothy spent summers at Lake Mohawk and enjoyed celebrating with family and friends. She was skilled in the kitchen and famous for her delicious apple pie and lemon cake. Dorothy and her husband were well traveled and had the opportunity to see many wonderful places. Dorothy was a devout Catholic who attended St. Michaels Parish. Her faith was an important part of her everyday life. Dorothy's purpose in life was to support and love her family unconditionally. Her home was her palace and she took great pride in taking care of her family. She touched everyone with her sense of humor and quick wit. She was gracious and thankful for all of life's blessings. Dorothy was beautiful inside and out.
Dorothy is survived by her 6 children; Roger (Patty) DeVille, Marsha (Denny) Bricker, Gayle (John) Woolf of Murray, Utah, Faye (Tom) Hudec, Don (Laurie) DeVille, Diane (Rex) Porter of Hanahan, S.C., Dorothy left behind 20 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren who adored her and will miss her dearly. Her loving sisters, Jane Wernet and Rosemary DePasquale still reside in Canton. The family would like to thank Bethany Nursing Home, Dr. Baum, the Baum family and staff for their love and compassion for Dorothy. Her presence here on earth was a gift we will always treasure and be thankful for. Please help us celebrate her life and her legacy.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (3430 St. Michael Dr. NW, Canton) followed by a mass of Christian Burial at St. Michaels with Rev. Fr. Donald King celebrant. Entombment will be immediately following in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to St. Michaels Catholic Church.
