George Lemon Obituary

George W. Lemon Sr.
George W. Lemon Sr., age 88, of Jackson Township, passed away Friday afternoon, April 6, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. George was born on August 1, 1918 in Houston County, Georgia to the parentage of Anna R. and Mose Lemon. George married Mary King in 1938 and to this union six children were born, Sarrah L. Johnson, Geraldine (Dale V.) Radcliffe, George (Kaleen) W. Lemon Jr., Willie J. (Robin) Lemon, Rosemary (Winston A.) Powell and Linda D. (William) Taylor. He is preceded in death by wife, Mary, who died in 2005; three grandchildren, Criss (Arlethia) Radcliffe, Troy Lemon, and Morgan Nicole Lemon, daughter-in-law, Madelyn Lemon and brothers, Roosevelt, Peter, Frank, and Willie; and sisters, Georgiabelle Thompson and Pearl Anderson. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the Timken Co. in 1980. He was an avid fisherman and loved to travel. He took great pride in attending his family's annual reunions held in different states each year. George and his family moved from Florida to Massillon, Ohio in 1942 and united with Friendship Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board and was a Trustee and remained a faithful member until 1961 at which time he moved to Canton, Ohio where he joined Jerusalem Baptist Church, and served as a Church Usher and a Church Trustee for many years. Upon returning to Massillon in 2001, he and his wife reunited with Friendship Baptist Church. Once again he served on the Trustee Board until his health failed. He received the title of "Trustee Emeritus" in 2006. George was affiliated with the International Masons, Simpson Lodge, and American Legion Post # 204 for many years. He was a so soft spoken that his children referred to him (behind his back) as "Whispering George"; however, he could talk loudly when necessary-especially when disciplining the children. To know him was to love him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. George is survived by his six children and their spouse; grandchildren, Carlton Lemon, Marc (Merlene) Radcliffe, Tracy Taylor, Hope (Rasheed) Hakim, Jason (Trina) Taylor, Michael (Barbara) Lemon, Rodney (Tina) Lemon, Shawn (Erika) Lemon, Nicole Lemon, LaMont (Kendra) Powell, Trevor Powell, Brittany Lemon, Carla Lemon, Derek (Julia) Lemon, Corey (Necole) Lemon, and Arlethia Radcliffe; great grandchildren, Alexander J. They were always there
By Gerry Radcliffe (Daughter)
Read at Dad’s Funeral April 14, 2007

When we were born, our parents were there. They experienced all the anxiety and uncertainties of any parent that brings a child into this world. When both our parents died, we were there and as their children, we experienced all the uncertainties and anxieties of any child losing a parent. The waiting, the experience of pain, not knowing what to say, We will cry we will miss them; many times we will want to see them just one more time.

During the birth process, man assists by pulling the child with forceps, but the gentle touch of God's hand delivers the baby. During the death process, GOD held out his hand and guided our parents home while we were reluctant to let go even though we knew GOD only loaned them to us for a little while.

We may wonder if we did the right thing, we will do some things right, and we will do some things wrong. We must always remember the lessons they taught us and their unconditioned Love.

We have had wonderful parents who loved and natured us and we will always remember the lessons we learned from them and we will impart those lessons onto our children as they will to their children.

One of Dad’s most memorable songs was, “We come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord”. As any family, we have had our share of tragedy. We have always loved and supported each other.

We know with GOD’s help and that of our friends, we shall get through these most difficult of times.

I am proud to be a member of this family. We know that when we put GOD first, all things are possible and we thank you, family & friends for your love and support.

The greatest gift we can give to our parents is to live a life of honor and respect.

2005 Willie, Dad, Gerry, Rose, Louise, Linda and George while visinting Dear (Mary Lemon) at the Laurels of Massillon Healthcare Center

Family,
What a Great Legacy Uncle George has left behind. Although, I never met his brother (Peter), my grandfather, I can only imagine how special he would have been to me, just knowing how special his brothers have been to me. I will always remember Uncle George's smile and gentleness. I pray that we would all live as God has intended, so that we may have eternal life and reunite with our loved ones. I love you all and pray God's greatness on each of your lives.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of one of his saints. Ps.116:15
Although no man or woman can know the thoughts of the LORD we do know he gives us gifts to treasure and love, and too soon he takes these gifts to be back at home with him. I pray the LORD'S strength in this hour of need. May the Lemon and Powell families comfort turn from grieving to rejoicing knowing God has his child back at home.

Pastor Louie Pantelis

Brother Mike, and family a prayer for you. May the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, in this your darkest hour, bring you comfort and peace. May He fill the void in your life with His presence, as He reminds you of our hope beyond the grave. As you go through the valley may our Lord guide you as the Good Shepherd. May He grant you His grace as He draws you closer to His heart. Amen

If you or your family need anything at this time know that I am here to walk beside you at all times.

To my Dad, Uncle and Aunts...

What a remarkable man of God. Granddad was a man of courage, stamina and great strength. Yes, our family lost another pillar of the Lemon family but let us rejoice that he is in the everlasting arms of Jesus Christ. Let us rally behind one another, as Jesus being the Rock that keeps us together. I love each of you dearly.
