Grace Darling (Frees) Etherton 1930-2018

"Together Again"

died on October 19, 2018, from an aneurysm. Grace spent most of her life living in Northeast Ohio. She was born on February 25, 1930 in Westerville, Ohio. She spent her childhood living in Justus, Pigeon Run, Middlebranch, and East Palestine. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1947. She graduated from Nursing School at Massillon City Hospital in 1951 and in the same year married Russell Henry Etherton. After Russell's service in the US Air Force, they moved to Perry Township. She spent much of her career as a nurse, teacher, and administrator working at Timken Mercy Hospital, The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, and Nurse's House Call. She was an active member of the Alpha Lambda Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was an ardent quilter and a member of the Canton Quilters Guild. She and her friend, Marg Cash, formed a small business, Margrace, making quilted jackets and purses.

She is preceded in death by her parents Rev. Lewis Spahlinger and Elva Mable (Moody) Frees; her brother Elwyn Jay Frees; her husband of 67 years, Russell and her daughter Susan Ellen, who died shortly after birth. She is survived by her sister Ruth Ellen King and brother Lewis Earl Frees; her son Russell Stephen and his wife Karen, their daughter Libby; her son Jonathan Lewis and his wife Susan, their children Sarah Grace and Jay; her son James Harmon and his wife Gina, their children Kara and Isaac, son-in-law Dave, grandchildren Tyler, Micah, and Jude.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Massillon. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, 1516 Edison St NW, Uniontown, OH 44685, Pastor Bob Cheyney, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery, Beach City at 2:30 p.m., October 26, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stark County District Library, 715 Market Ave N, Canton, OH 44702 or the Aultman Compassionate Care Center, 2600 6th St SW, Canton, OH 44710.
