Irving Gordon Obituary

Dr. Irving M. Gordon
passed away in his sleep Wednesday, March 24, 2010 after a brief illness. He was 83. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Roberta; four children, Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Gordon (Erin), Ellen Beshada (Duane), Nina Gordon Crain, Roger Gordon; and 10 grandchildren, Micah, Robin (who served in the Israeli Defense Forces), Hasassah, Judah, Jamie, Olivia, Cessily, Natalie, Sydney, and Marcus.
Dr. Gordon always tried to do the right thing to better his community. He started the Perry Family Practice Center of Perry Township in 1957 then in 1963 was a founder of the former Doctor's Hospital of Massillon where he served on its board and was chief of staff for two consecutive terms. He was a pioneer in promoting the Osteopathic Profession. His other volunteer passion was as a board member of Stark State College of Technology for 20 years. He enjoyed that because he said, 'It was so different from practicing medicine.' In addition he was published in many medical journals including the widely read Medical Economics. He conducted seminars on the subject. A Canton native he was graduated from Lehman High School. He spent two years in the Air Force during World War II and graduated from Adelbert College of Case Western Reserve University with a BA degree and from Kent State University with a BS in pre-medicine. He was graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was certified by the Ohio Board of General Practitioners and was on the board of trustees of Wooster's eight county health systems agency. Dr. Gordon was president of the Ohio Society of the American College of Osteopathic General Practitioners and Surgeons. For diversion he was a ham radio operator and enjoyed reading, boating, traveling and tennis. Dr. Gordon retired six years ago.
A memorial service will be Sunday 12:30 p.m. in Temple Israel with Rabbi Leah Herz officiating. His final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday 7-9 p.m. at their home. Memorial contributions may be made to Affinity Hospital or any preferred charity.

Roberta and family,
Please accept our sympathy during your time of grief.
I was deeply saddened to hear that Irv had died. I was unable to come to his funeral but will place a stone on his grave as I put a stone on my mothers and fathers nearby. As you may know he wrote a letter for me to apply to OUCOM and later taught me as a 3rd year medical student. As I became a physician he touched and forever changed my life and those of my patients. I hold him in my memory as one of the parents of my medical mind.

Our deepest sympathy for the loss of this wonderful friend from long ago. He was not only our family doctor, but he delivered my youngest daughter in 1971. I remember fondly when Dr. & Mrs. Gordon visited the outdoor theater in New Philadelphia with us to watch my brother perform. Our sympathy and fond memories to his family from my family.

My deepest sympathy to Dr. Gordon's family. He was my doctor from the late 70's until he retired. During those medical visits he became a friend. I haven't seen him since he retired, but through those visits I learned that he was not only a caring professional he was a loving family man. He leaves a wonderful legacy for his children and grandchildren. I am sure that your wonderful memories of this kind and humble man will bring you comfort.
