I don't think I know any of John's family. I graduated with John from Jackson in 1960 and was captain of the football team his senior year. John was our defensive center, and nobody ran up the center on us when he was playing. I spent a lot of time with John, and we double dated a lot our senior year. He was the best man at my first wedding in Mansfield, Ohio. I had a partnership share in some of the first horses he owned after I got out of college. Unfortunately, over the years we lost touch with each other as we often do when we get married and move away. I have some tremendous memories of John and sincerely regret his passing. Interestingly, I was just talking to someone about him last week, and a horse he had in the mid 60's named Gold Mine Bars - a beautiful Palomino quarterhorse mare. I had no idea he had moved to Oklahoma. My sincere condolences to all members of his family.

Hi,

I know none of you in John's immediate family know me, but I graduated in 1958 from Jackson H.S. with Jim Blacksone, John's brother, and I have many, many happy memories of going to Oakdale to play baseball in the lot next to the Blackstone's home. John was frequently the catcher, and he was always such fun to be around. Of course, I didn't know John as well as I knew Jim, but he is mixed in with all of my other good childhood memories I have of living and growing up in Massillon (better known as Jackson Twp. then).

I am so happy to know that it sounds as if John found great happiness in his life with his family, his horses, his cars, and dancing with his wife. That made me happy.

My sympathy to all of you from someone who remembers your husband and dad, son and brother, with good memories.

My Father was my best friend and I will miss him every passing day. We shared a mutual admiration for one another that will last my lifetime, because I know he will be watching over me.

I would like to thank those of you who have taken the time to pass along your memories and god bless.

Dear Sandy. I am so glad I got to talk
to John before he passed away. We go back to about 1969, when I bought my
first horse from him. He taught me a
lot and I still use a lot of that
knowledge in my day to day work with
horses. I watched his girls grow up
and become young ladies and was glad
when he found you as a life companion. There were some rough spots in the road, as for all of us,
but he helped a lot of people over the years and left a lasting
impression. God bless you and the
family.....he will be missed.

Sandy and family,
I am so sad to hear of John's passing. To all those who read this, I was a young know it all out of college who wanted to be a big time horse trainer. The Blackstones were living in the heart of horse country at the time in Texas and that is where I wanted to be! Being from Dalton I knew John who would come to the Village Dutchman where I waited tables through high school. I called them and they graciously took me in! Needless to say for anyone who knew John it was like boot camp!! and Sandy was my mom 1200 miles away from home who always looked out for me. I learned alot that summer about horses and I have wonderful memories that I am greatful for. Sandy I am soo sorry that it takes something like this for people to want to stay in touch. I cant help but recall all the evenings sitting up listening to Johns stories of his younger days or watching him handle those crazy stallions like it was nothing! (Gator) I will never forget John!! and I hope the good memories you have will get you through this tough time.

John taught me to ride when I was 11 at his barn on Fulton Rd. Now I have a quarter horse and my 10 year old daughter is showing. We bought our horse from John's old barn in Dalton and had him stalled there for a time. I always wanted John to know that but heard he was in OK. Thank you John for teaching me and I'll never forget you or Larry Long, my favorite buckskin. My birthdate is Oct. 3...I'll always remember you.
