Most of my memories of Johnny are from my parents stories of the Smith Family. They were neighbors and became close friends while living and working in Oak Ridge, Tn. during and after WWII. I was always inspired by Johnny and Bev so much so that I almost went into dentistry. He truly was one of those guys you wanted to be like. I always looked forward to the letters and cards from them especially at Christmas to see the family and how they had grown. Memories are a wonderful thing to hold onto as we get older, and one day, hopefully, we'll see each other again. Truly, truly the best you would ever want to know. To Bret and Julie, I am so sorry for your loss.

Dr. Smith was not only our family dentist while I was growing up in North Canton, but he the inspiration for me to become a dentist. I was in college and trying to make decisions about my future career. At an appointment with him during my Spring Break, John suggested a career in Dentistry, saying, as only John could, that it was a "pretty good racket." He encouraged me throughout dental school and even offered to add on to his office if I should decide to return to North Canton to practice. Although I decided on a different path rather than return home to practice, John and I kept in touch and remained friends over the years and he was always interested in my dental career.
I have wonderful memories of John and will always remember him fondly. I would not be the person I am today without his influence.
