Margaret Alexander Obituary

Margaret L. "Margie" Alexander

Age 74, of Magnolia, passed away Wed., May 5, 2021. She was born March 17, 1947 in Canton, a daughter of the late Paul and Emma (Darr) Downes, and was a life resident of Magnolia. Margie was a 1965 graduate of Sandy Valley High School and spent her life dedicated to raising her six children. She volunteered her time to their many activities from Little Cardinal Football, Boy Scouts, Sandy Valley Gymnastics among others. Her passion for gymnastics carried on throughout her life as a gymnast, coach and judge. In addition to her years dedicated to the sport, she enjoyed many years managing the Zoar Tavern. She participated in many bowling leagues at East Sparta Rec and the Hall of Fame Lanes as well. Margie had a zest for all areas of life, could do circles around most mechanics and handymen while doing handstands at the same time. In her later years, she found an appreciation for knitting blankets, swimming, playing cards and the taste of an ice-cold margarita.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Rebecca; and a brother, Marvin Downes. Margie is survived by her husband, Amos H. Alexander, with whom she would have celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary on May 18th; three daughters and three sons, Amy Alexander, Robin (Justin) Woods, Lisa Alexander, Chip (Danette) Alexander, Michael (Rhonda) Alexander, and Christopher Alexander; six grandchildren, Parker, Hudson, Marvin, Tristan, Jack and Kate, and her sister, Martha Gallagher.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wed. at 1 p.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Gary Smith, Celebrant, officiating. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Social distancing and facial covering is required. Condolences may be sent to:

I was raised with Margie in Magnolia. We were in a dance group when we were younger and danced at various Magnolia festivals. Description of Martha's life has to be very true. I remember her as a dynamo.Lynn (Close) Farber
