April 5, 2009

Hey buddie I miss you so much. Things just aren't the same without you. So many things have been happening but I can't just pick up the phone and tell you about them. I think of your family every day and I keep them in my prayers. I know God brought you home to Him but it was just too soon. All the things we had planned to do I guess I'll have to do alone but you'll always be in my thoughts. You will always be my best friend and my heart hurts cuz you're gone. Goodbye for now.

Shackle Family,
The Casher family is stunned and saddened by the news of Doug’s passing. We loved Doug and will always cherish the friendship we formed with him during our many years together coaching and playing for the Greentown Wildcats baseball team.

Kyle,
I will never forget the first time I met your Dad. It was at the tryouts for the baseball team and you were 9 years old. You got hit by a baseball and were hurt and your Dad was right there to take care of you and comfort you. It was clear from the way he spoke to you that he loved you deeply. It made a huge impression on me and spoke volumes about the kind of man and father he was. I will miss him greatly!
Our love and prayers are with you!

I taught Doug in Sunday School at Bethel just before I left Canton to move here. He was almost 4 and I was 16. I remember one Sunday school lesson I taught to his class. Betty Tracy had to leave the room because, she was laughing at his answer so hard. I HAD TO STAY and keep CONTROL! He was a "doll" and I have ALWAYS remembered him through the years.

I'm really sorry for his passing from this life, but, I know that he is keeping God laughing!!

March 12, 2009

Dear Doug,

I never got a chance to say good-bye so now I am. I was so blessed to have you as my friend. When God put us in each other's life He knew what He was doing. You and I both know the reasons why. I know that each of us felt as though the things we did to help one another was done because of the people we are. When we helped each other it was done expecting nothing in return but, somehow we always managed to return the favor. I thank you for sharing your life with me and trusting me with your thoughts and feelings. I thank you for all you have done for Bryan and the support and guidance with his music. It is because of you that he has the confidence and desire to go on to great things. You have impacted my life forever and you will always remain in my heart. Even though I can't just pick up the phone and talk to my favorite buddie I still find myself smiling when I think of you. You are the only person in my life that has left me with nothing but happy, joyous, goofy memories that will remain with me until I see you again. You told me before that we knew each other better than we knew ourselves ... well buddie I'll now be looking to the heavens for you when I need your reassurance. Oh, and one last favor, be sure to pick just the right color banannas for my mom .... haha!!! I love you and I miss my friend.

Dear Shackle family,

There just doesn't seem to be words to express our condolences. The shock of Doug's passing has left Bryan and I so lost. He was a FRIEND in the truest sense of the meaning. Doug had so many accomplishments in his life but more importantly he was a wonderful person. Doug's character was developed because of his great family that guided him, supported him and loved him. Each of you made Doug the man he was. He loved all of you so much and was so proud of his children and their accomplishments in life. I pray that each of you will turn to God and allow him to help you through this most difficult time. Though the world has lost Doug, the heavens have brought home one of their Angels. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you.
