Nancy Brost Obituary

Nancy Ann Brost
“She as my North, my South, my East and West, my working week and my Sunday rest, my noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong. The stars are not wanted now; put out every one, Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun, pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood; For nothing now can ever come to any good.”
W. H. Auden
Nancy Ann Brost, 74, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at her home in Webb City, Mo. She was born on Nov. 10, 1942 in Canton, Ohio to Irene and Daniel Dugan. She grew up with her eight other siblings, Timothy, Kathy, Shirley (McIntosh), Carol (Emerick), Ron, David and Joyce (Schott). She graduated from McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio in 1960. After high school she worked at the Arcade Market as a waitress at the famous Dicks Sandwich Shop. This was the place that she met her handsome soldier and future husband, Collins Joseph Brost. She held a few character building jobs (Town and Country, Timken Mercy Radiology, and a candy factory) until eventually dedicating herself to the raising of their two children, John Anthony Brost and Karen Lynn Brost.
Nancy married her first love, Collins Joseph Brost, on Jan. 17, 1964 and they were happily married for 53 years. Nancy enjoyed traveling the world, watching black and white movies, watching Dr Oz, reading stacks of newspapers at one go and spending time with her beloved grandchildren, Joseph Anthony, Brandon Lee, Coco and Ava and also her adorable great-grandchildren, Brayden and Jaidyn Brost. She was someone who touched 100's of lives in the quietest of ways. She was always private, understated, modest, stubborn, intelligent and always incredibly kind to everyone she met. She never complained and kept most of her illness to herself. She was a legend up until the very end and only solidified that our mom was a bad-ass of the highest order. It's only in looking back now, as her children, that we realize our Mom managed to cast a rainbow filter on absolutely everything we did. She was our pre-Instagram mood enhancer and managed to shed a more positive and uplifting light on absolutely everything we did. She taught us to always see the glass as half full and to always be thankful of everything around us. She showed her pride openly and loved and protected her family fiercely every day of her life.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Daniel Dugan; her siblings, Kathy, Shirley, Carol and Ron: her baby boy, Jeffrey Brost; and her beloved grandson, Brandon Lee Brost. Nancy is survived by her loving spouse, Collins Joseph Brost; her son, John Anthony Brost of Sarcoxie, Mo; her daughter, Karen Brost (Whyte) of London, England; her grandchildren, Joseph Anthony, Ava Vivienne Whyte, Coco Elizabeth Whyte; her great-grandchild, Jaidyn and Brayden; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Billy Haas, Tisha, Aaron Lambert, Beth, Kim, Cathy, Amy and Tom Brost, Doug, Darlene, Christy, Cyndi, Doug and Brandy Dugan Nancy also wanted to send a special thanks to her loving friend Dr. Shah of Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo.
