Richard Shier Obituary

Richard Shier
Richard Shier, age 62, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008 after a brief illness. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who left an extraordinary legacy for his family. Richard retired from the Hoover Co. in 2000 after 36 years working as General Foreman and was presently employed at Metzger's Hardward in Louisville. He served in the National Guard from 1965-1972. He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, helping with the Angel Food Ministry. He enjoyed delivering meals in Louisville for Meals on Wheels and was a dedicated blood donor at the Aultman Blood Bank. Richard loved working on his "mini-farm", raising pigs and caring for his two donkeys. He loved having his family together and sharing stories and advice to his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband for 41 years to his wife, and a wonderful father and example to their three children and six grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Martine and Vivian (Rouse) Shier and a sister, Rebecca Stevens. Survived by his wife, Linda (Reichenbach); a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jane Shier of N. Canton; two daughters, Wendy Thomas and Tracey Shier of Louisville; six grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, Kathleen, Seth, Regan and Zachary; he is also survived by one brother, Fred Shier of Virginia; and two sisters, Leah Logan of Hartville and Betty Owens of Canton; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mark Williams officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Stier-Israel Funeral Home of Louisville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.

Dear Linda and family,

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I remember Richard as the gawky kid who moved in across the street from me and we both got to be the "new kids" in the 4th grade. He was a great pal when we were children and gave me lots of fun memories of growing up on Sharon Rd.

May God bless and keep you during this most difficult time.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

To my Aunt Linda and cousins Gary, Wendy and Tracy,

Your pain is great and will be for a long time. Time does help the pain. But only Jesus can heal.
I am soo soo sorry for your incredible loss. I will continue to pray as you work through this time of adjusting to life without him.
He was an incredible man. His loss is great. In time your memories you hold of him will prove even greater. Turn to your Heavenly Father now and trust Him to comfort and guide you through this and always. He loves you.
I love you. My heart is with you and I am here for anything you need.

May God bless and keep you in your time of need and always,

I worked with Richard for several years and he was a man that could touch many lives and many hearts. He tought me many things over those years. He will be missed but I know that he is watching over us now while he lives his eternity with the King of Kings. May God be with his family during their times of sorrow but let them know that he is in a better place.
