Rick Rodak Obituary

Rick R. Rodak
Rick R. Rodak, age 40, of Canton, was suddenly and prematurely taken from those of us who knew him and loved him into the loving arms of the Heavenly Father that he loved so much on May 26, 2008. Rick was a graduate from Louisville High School and the University of Akron. He was a wonderful and loving husband to his precious wife, Heather; a devoted and loving and proud father to his four beautiful children who loved him so much, Justin, Zackary, Alek and Hanna. Rick was a son and brother who was a source of pride and love beyond words. He was a friend like rare few. Rick's respect and compassion for all people is a testament to the love and goodness that God puts in the hearts of only the best. Rick has also touched the lives of many children through his dedication in coaching. Those of us who were fortunate enough to know Rick were truly blessed by God. Today, we futilely grope for words that can only fall far short to expressing our love for Rick, our appreciation for the blessing of having had him in our lives, and the horrible grief and pain that we're feeling. We know he's lovingly looking down upon each of us from heaven and we look forward to seeing him again someday. In addition to his wife and children Rick is survived by his parents, George and Beverly Rodak of Louisville, OH; brother, Ron (Becky) Rodak, of Mineral City, OH; sisters, Renee (Peter) Gray of Salisbury, NC; Rhonda (Paul) Conrad of Orville, OH., Rina (Joe) Ridgway of Fenton, MO., and Robin Rutledge of Brunswick, OH.; grandmother, Anna Rodak; father-in-law and mother-inlaw, Bill and Pam Riffle; sister-in-laws and brother-inlaws, Kelli (Jeff) Joliat, Shelli (Ed) Saeger and Halli (Troy) Clevenger, all of North Canton, and many many nieces, nephews aunts, and uncles. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 6900 Market Ave. N. with Pastor John Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in the Northlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 30 in the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel (801 Pittsburg Ave. NW) from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to a college fund for his children with checks payable to The Am. Fund/College America c/o Rohrer/Joliat Associates 101 Central Plaza S. Suite 1100 Canton, OH. 44702. Dear Rodak Family, I am so sorry to hear about the sudden passing of Rick. I have many memories of you all from childhood, and it was such a shock. Growing up as neighbors, it was hard not to have been impacted by all of the Rodak Family. You are all such an inspiration as to what family is! God Bless you all and my prayers are with you!

Dear Rodak Family,
I live out-of-town and heard the news too late to attend the services, but wanted to extend my deepest sympathies to all of you for your loss. You may remember me, may family grew up on Meese rd nearby and played with Rick at your house and at ours. We attended pg together and he punched me in the stitches that were in my forehead because i mad a bad call in a basketball game at recess(4th grade). I chased him down 153 and Mr. Snyder caught up with us in his panel station wagon and paddled us with ping pong paddles.(lol) We were great friends before and even better after. It didn't matter to Rick who you were or what you had done, he was genuine. In 1991(about) I was moving at mattress from Akron to New Philly and it blew out the back of my truck on I77 during rushhour. I pulled over and jumped out to retrieve the mattress from the middle of the crowded highway. Most people were swearing and upset. I heard a voice say " here, let me help you with that,". It was Rodak! Not swearing, not angry, he was helping a stranger in hard times, imagine that. To those of you that knew him, I know that doesn't suprise you, but it is testimony to who he was and how he was raised. Rick was truly the nicest man I ever knew! He exemplified his family and a town that cares for people. It takes a village... and I feel fortunate to have been part of yours. May your pain readily subside and know he is heaven!!

Thoughts and prayers- Tim F. Kiefaber( My entire family is thinking of you)

Heather & Kids: Rick was one of the finest young men I have ever known. When we relocated to Ohio from Florida & I started to work at GEI, it was Rick that showed me the ropes, & helped me so much! Me & my "Southern Accent & Attitude" he would say! He was a great teacher & a great friend! He "Walked the Talk" EVERYDAY! The world was blessed with his presence & he will be missed & remembered every day!

Dear Rodak Family,
I recently read this while sitting by my son's hospital bedside. Although my son's emergency condition uprighted, and he is recovering, I found this scripture reassuring. This may not feel like the right time to read it, but maybe you can write the scripture down and it may be of benefit later. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17. I went to school with Rick as well, and I truly believe he was one of the most genuine people of the class of 1985. Your family frequents my prayers often. The promise in 1 Thess. was an encouragement.

I would like to extend my condolances to the entire Rodak family. I was out of the country during this difficult time and did not learn of this unfortunate event until my return, thus I could not attend the services. Rick was a trusted business associate who genuinly looked out for everyones best interests at all times. I had the pleasure of being associated with Rick and Graphic Enterprises for the last 15+ years and I know Rick will be missed by all that knew him.

To the Rodak families - I wanted to tell you how touched I was when I read the notice. What really impressed me was the love that everyone showed for him and what a loving and God loving person he was. It brought tears to my eyes to see his wonderful smiling face. I could see what a loving person he was and felt so bad that he was taken so young and with 4 kids yet. It seems so unfair. I'm sure he's in heaven. I know his family will have a rough road to travel. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know. Feel free to contact us at anytime. God Bless!

Our Deepest Sympathy to you ,your family and extended family on the loss of Rick. As you know he recently had a connection with the YWCA Homeless Shelter with very a very inspiring and heartfelt mission for our homeless woman. We also know he had a great brother, sister-in-la, nephews and nieces---the Ron Rodak Family--whom we knew through many ways. They have been wonderful to all our family in various ways. We have to mention our dear Hallie who has been wonderful to Jennifer and the YWCA over the years and what a wonderful family she has--miss you Hallie!!! It refects the love and commitment of all the Rodak family. Our heart goes out to Rick's wife and children. May the Lord hold this family in his most loving hand. About one month ago, Rick came through our doors at the YWCA Emergency Shelter, full of ideas and enthusiasm, wanting to do a project with his teen group to serve our homeless residents. The phone calls and E-mails began, and a plan was quickly formed. We barely got to know Rick, but could immediately feel his compassion, his energy, his creativity - he was a real motivator - and all of his motivation was through his Christian heart. We can only imagine the lives Rick has touched. Our world is a better place because of him. We are grateful and so very sorry. Please know that your whole family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Rodak Family, I was so sorry to hear about Rick. You have our deepest sympathy. Believe it or not, I remember Rick as my 6th grade camp counselor at LES. He's just that memorable. My husband and I were lucky enough to get to know him also while volunteering with Middle school church at FCC. My older girls also knew him and your boys. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Heather -
We were so shocked and saddened to learn about Rick and have been praying for your family ever since. Although we have been out of touch these last several years, we have wonderful memories of times spent with you. Brad remembers all the times he and Rick went running together and we especially remember the time that we went to Columbus for the weekend and Brad and Rick participated in the Duathelon (Susie was pregnant with Maggie and Heather was pregnant with Zack). Rick had a gift of relating to people in such a way to make everyone he came in contact with feel valued and special. We are so very sorry for your loss and pray that God’s love and peace as well as the promise of seeing Rick in Heaven one day will sustain you during the difficult days ahead.

Dear Heather and Family,

I was so saddened to hear about the sudden loss of Rick. Even though we lost touch over the years, I can tell you that I have fond memories of Rick and his devotion to his family. He was a friend, a mentor, and a fantastic model of what a father and husband should be. Of course 40 years is not enough time on this earth, but I can tell you that he loved you and the kids so much and never missed an opportunity to tell the people around him how proud he was of his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I met Rick at Camp Chof when we were teenagers. I will never forget his smile. Later he came to my work when he was with Graphic Enterprises so I got to catch up with him then. I am so sorry for your loss and will be praying for your family.

To the Rodak Family,

I knew Rick for several years. He sold me copiers at my business and I was surprised and pleased to see him walk into Realty One as a Sales Agent. Rick was always full of energy and embraced anyone that he came in contact with. Always a smile on his face and so very proud of his family. I did not have the pleasure of meeting everyone in his family, but Mr. Riffle was also a part of Realty One and once again a wonderful person. I want to extend my sympathy to everyone in the Rodak family. I can't imagine how you must feel, but God will be with you during this time. Truly a great guy that I am sure will live on in each of his wonderful children. God Bless you.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rick's family and friends. Our families knew Rick from our annual Camp-Y-Noah outing during Halloween week. I did not know Rick was a Christian but his actions and love for his wife and family was very evident. Hold strong to your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for he knows the path ahead and will comfort you all. Rick has touched so many lives in such a little time I can only hope to impact so many with time I have left. I think of Rick standing before God and hearing "Well done you good and faithful servant" I can only hope to hear those precious words at the end of my journey.

The Entire Rodak Family,
We were shocked to hear of Rick's passing. I worked at A.S.A.P. for many years and Rick would stop in always with a smile and something funny to say. He was a wonderful man, so proud of his wife and family. When I was pregnant with my son he told me being a parent would be the best job ever, and he was right! We cannot imagine the feeling of loss you have right now, but God does have a plan for Rick. We hope that in time, all your wonderful memories of him will help to ease your pain and bring you peace.

We are praying for you all during this unbelievably difficult time. Although I hadn't seen Rick in years, he impacted me greatly during my teen years when he and Heather worked with the youth at Canton First. Heather, Justin, Zack, Alek and Hanna –
We have been praying for you since we heard the news. Rick was a wonderful Christian who made this world a better place. We’ll always remember teaching the 1st and 2nd grade boys’ Caravan class together. We could count on Rick to keep the boys interested and entertained! At the same time, he made his faith real for the kids. We especially think of how he taught the boys in our class to be kind to others, an example he set in his own life. With all of the people that Rick influenced, and all of the people that they in turn will reach for Christ, thousands will be in heaven because Rick shared his faith. We’ll see him there someday. Our hearts go out to you.

I first met Rick at GEI, and although we didn't work together for long it was easy to see that he was a special person who had a positive impact on the people around him. While it has been awhile since I last spoke with him, he still had that same sparkle in his eyes that he always had, especially when he talked about Heather and their children. My thoughts and prayers go out to them, and his entire family. He left this world to soon, and now it will be a different place for his passing. God Bless you Rick.

To the entire Rodak family -

I was very saddened to hear of your loss. I never saw Rick without a smile on his face. Even while riding his bicycle. I would come to a stop light, or the video store, and see Rick and one of the kids riding...with a smile. The writing of the newspaper notice is a testament to his faith, which was clearly great. This loss is profound. You are all in my prayers.

My deepest sympathies go out to Rick's family. I used to work with Rick in the 90's - he was our Graphic Enteriprises salesperson. He was wonderful to work with - always so patient and understanding and willing to help. Then I got to know Rick as a father and coach when he helped coach my nephew's baseball team. He will be greatly missed by all. You all are in my thoughts and prayers, and may God keep you close during this time.

Dear Heather and Family,

My deepest sympathy goes out to you, the children, and the rest of the Rodak family. Rick has always been such a nice person and friend to so many. It was always great to run into Rick every couple of years to reminisce of old times and catch up on what was new in our busy lives. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Heather & Children:

I had been out of town and got an e mail from our Club President at Rotary and was at a loss of words when I read the news. Our club had been in need of 'new life' and Rick was the eptiome of just that. Besides the undoubted love for his children, he really took the reigns for RYLA and I know he left an impression with those young adults. His mark on our Rotary Club will never be forgotten and I continually shall keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Heather & family,

I am so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. I remember him from the good old wrestling days back in highschool. What great matches we had. I always enjoyed talking with Rick at the YMCA and when he would occasionally stop by the shop when he worked at Graphic Enterprises. Rick was such a genuinely nice person. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Dear Rodak Family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time of sadness. Rick was a small group leader at church this year for our son, Matthew. Matthew always spoke highly of Rick and looked forward to their time together on Sundays. Rick was a wonderful role model of a man leading a life dedicated to Christ. We will forever be thankful for his positive impact on our son's life. We met Rick for the first time at church this past Sunday, the day before his passing. He was outside with his small group and we were outside with ours. He made a point to introduce himself to my husband and to share kind comments about our son. My regret is that we didn't tell him then how much we appreciated his service to the church and our son. Please know that his leadership and example lives on in others. His life has been a blessing to us.

Mr. & Mrs. Rodak and the entire Rodak family,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Ricky. I've known him and all of you since we all lived on Schmucker Rd. and your dog, I think her name was Lady, had her puppies under our porch. Do you remember that? I remember going to Kindergarten with Ricky and Bobby Skolosh at PG with Mrs. Krabill. And I also remember the penny carnival you had in your back yard. Certainly many more memories, too many to mention here!
My heart bleeds for all of you and the pain you are feeling. Please know that I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. God's blessings to all of you during this difficult time. Ricky's passing has surely created a large void in so many lives; but that's to be expected with someone who is as treasured as he so obviously is.
love and prayers,

To Heather and Children, and the Rodak Family,
The few times we have run into Rick over the years, we have always seen the same warm smile and open friendliness that he had when we were in school. What a loving, beautiful testament to him you have written! He was obviously a man of God and family, and he is leaving you with a legacy of love and warm memories.
You are in our prayers.

To the Rodak Family:
Last year, my husband was in the hospital for a month with a crippling back injury. I remember Rick, calling me, and bringing us an amazing meal- just to show us God's love. I did not really know him, yet he and your family reached out to us in our time of need. We were and are so thankful that he reached out to us! He was a very kind, smiling, and encouraging person. I am so sorry to hear of this, my heart mourns with you. I am lifting you up to our Heavenly Father, praying for his arms to squeeze you tight...

Our dear Rodak friends, We can't tell you how sorry we are to hear of Rick's passing. Rick and Hanna were two of the first neighbors we met when we moved in. Of course they were riding bikes as they usually did. We have such happy memories of Rick. Taking the kids to Jackson football games together was always a fun time. To our fellow Browns fan...you will be truly missed. God Bless all of you, we're here for you any time.
