Roy Ridgway Obituary

Roy L. Ridgway 1947-2017
70, of Massillon, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Sept. 3, 2017. Born in Massillon, Jan. 20, 1947, a son to the late Harry and Velma (Barr) Ridgway, Roy was raised by his maternal grandparents, Albert and Helen Barr and graduated from Perry High School with the Class of 1965. Honorably discharged from the US Army, he served in Vietnam and received the Army Commendation Medal. His grandparents instilled Roy with his values and work ethic. The army trained him to do a job he loved. Following 18 years with Young Truck Sales in Canton, Roy started his own successful business, relying on his skill as a heavy equipment operator to found R.L. Ridgway Mechanical Services. He invested more than 25 years in his business and it proved to be his true calling and passion. When he had time to call his own, he enjoyed watching the OSU Buckeyes or spending quiet time in his garden. But most special was the time spent with his wife and family and dear friends.
Preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; Roy is survived by his wife, Judy L. (Gallagher) Ridgway, of the home; his daughters, Kimberly (Troy) Boda and Tracie (Jack) Leininger, all of Canton and a step-son, Steve Riblett, of Massillon; his grandchildren, Seth, Sarah and Emily Boda, Jordyn Leininger and Austin and Dallas Riblett. Also surviving is a brother, Jerry Ridgway.
Formal services including military honors and burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will take place at a later date. A military salute honoring all living and deceased veterans – including Roy, who graduated from Perry High School is being scheduled for the near future and an additional detailed announcement will be made to confirm the location, date and time. The family has suggested memorial contributions in Roy's name be made to advance the mission of Aultman Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.
