WILLIAM DEEM Obituary

William E. Deem, Sr.

age 93, of Canton, OH, went to God's glory on September 13, 2018. He was born in Harrisville, W.Va., on September 8, 1925, he was the third child of the late Earl Sanford and Naomi (Hemsworth) Deem.

He attended High School in Belpre, OH. He married

Veatrice (Moneypenny) on March 9, 1944; and worked at the A.G. Stafford Company until his retirement. Following retirement he and his wife resided for many years at Raintree Resort in North Fort Myers, FL. He was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he served in many volunteer positions, and was a recent member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was a Scoutmaster at both St. Paul Lutheran Church (Waynesburg, OH), and Bethel Lutheran Church (Canton, OH) for more than 35 years, where he used his talents to mold several generations of young men through merit badges and campouts. The highlight of which was taking a group of Scouts to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. In addition to Scouting Bill also enjoyed fishing, photography, gardening, carving, and loved his family without question.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Betty, Frances, and Noretta; and his brother, Earl Jr. He is survived by his brother, Robert; his loving wife of 74 years, Veatrice; his sons and daughters-in-law, William Jr. and Sally of Marion, MI and Lee and Diane of Canton, OH; grandchildren: Stacey, Shea, Daniel, Carrie, and Matthew; 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The Deem family wishes to thank Pastor Schafer, the staff of Massillon Laurels and Crossroads Hospice Care for their compassionate care of Bill.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Schneeberger Funeral Home where from 10-11 a.m. before services with Pastor Leah Schafer officiating. My sincere condolences and prayers to Lee and the entire Deem family. Mr. Deem was my scout master at Bethel Lutheran. His mentoring & guidance helped mold my character for life. Mr. Deem was truly a man of God. Go in peace, go with God.
