Arthur Greenbaum Obituary
Arthur Frank Greenbaum passed away on October 6, 2022 at the age of 92. Arthur (Art) was born August 27, 1930 in Baltimore City to Leon J. Greenbaum and Jessie E. Greenbaum (Kilmore). Art grew up in Roland Park and sang in the St. Michael's church choir. He attended Baltimore City College and was elected Maryland "Boy Governor" of the Hi-Y (YMCA) learning the Legislative ropes from then Governor William Preston Lane, Jr. He studied journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1948-1951, was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and was elected editor of the school newspaper, the Daily Tar Heel. He played on the lacrosse team with his brother Jesse at UNC, and was later named Head Coach in 1955, assisting the club team to return to Varsity status. He loved Carolina and was a devoted Tar Heel. In 1957, he married Charlotte Jones from Salem, Virginia. He owned The Patio in Durham, N.C., a miniature golf and driving range. The family relocated to Baltimore where Arthur established a car dealership (Adjustment Services), was President of the Maryland Independent Automobile Dealers Association. He moved to Annapolis, dabbling in local politics (Ward 1). He was involved in beautification of Annapolis through the Clean City Committee with his long-time partner Betsy DeGroot. He loved his dogs and often told jokes about Cassie, his chocolate lab who gave "chocolate shakes." Art enjoyed gardening at his home in Annapolis. Arthur and Betsy moved to Mt. Laurel, New Jersey before Betsy passed. Afterwards, he returned to Baltimore, and lived for several years with his daughter in West Towson with his dog Cassie. After a brief stay in Annapolis, he returned to Baltimore, and passed at Stella Maris. Art enjoyed reading the Annapolis Gazette and the Washington Post, especially the comics and "home grown" editorials. He was an excellent cook - his "garbage eggs" were a popular family meal. He loved music (classical, jazz and blues from the 1950s), played the piano, and attended the Annapolis Symphony frequently. He loved tennis and swimming. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of dogs, and his love for his grandchildren. He is predeceased by his long time fiancée Betsy Degroot, and brothers Jesse Kilmore Greenbaum, & Leon Jack Greenbaum. He is survived by 3 children Frank Greenbaum (Susan), Ann Greenbaum (Jack Warnick), and Bill Thomas (Wendy), 6 grandchildren Katie & Emma Muhvich, Laura & Taylor Greenbaum, Ben & Matt Thomas. A memorial service will be held at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral Center (2325 York Rd, Timonium 21093) at 12:00 PM on October 14, 2022.
