Catherine Aberg Obituary

Catherine Cavanaugh Aberg, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Gilchrist Hospice Center in Columbia, MD. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, William (Bill) A. Aberg, Jr. They were married on April 28, 1951. Her daughter Karen Aberg, and her sister Joan Cavanaugh also passed before her. She was born in Rouseville, PA on July 16, 1929. She attended Marjorie Webster Junior College in DC. She and Bill started their family in West Hyattsville, MD, and in 1964 moved to Bowie, MD. She moved to the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, MD, in 2006, and was known to many as the "Joke Lady". She was involved in volunteer activities at all locations. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Pius X Church in Bowie, and at Our Lady of the Angels Church on the Charlestown campus. She is survived by her 5 children: John Aberg, Colleen Boisvert, William M. Aberg, Lisa Miles and Greta Cuccia. Her 9 grandchildren: Christopher Aberg, Matthew Aberg, Michael Aberg, Jay Boisvert, Jacqueline Brewer, Kelly Miles, Elizabeth Thomas, Ryan Cuccia and Stephen Cuccia. Her 4 great-grandchildren: Reagan Thomas, Nathan Brewer, Nolan Brewer and Blake Youngblood. Other special people in her life included daughter-in-law Mary Anne Aberg, sons-in-law Jon Boisvert and William Miles, cousin Eleanor Cavanaugh, and brother-in-law Robert Aberg and his wife Anne Aberg. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, November 29 at Our Lady of the Angels in Catonsville, MD. There will be a Mass at 10:00 AM, with a reception following 11:00 - 1:00. In her memory, consider performing a random act of kindness to assist or cheer someone up - something Cathie selflessly did daily. In recognition of the excellent care provided to her over the years by the Charlestown Staff, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Staff Appreciation Fund, Charlestown Philanthropy Office, 719 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228.

My gratitude is great for knowing such a wonderful lady as Cathy. She always was so thoughtful and kind and a joy to be around. She certainly is rejoicing with her God whom she loved so very, very much. She was and is a VIP. Sister Cecilia
