Julian was my daughter Melanie's classmate at Janney Elementary and I used to see him at Janney Extended Day. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to lose a son. Every American civilian should pause each day and think about the young men and women who put their lives and futures on the line for the rest of us. Not enough of us do. I am so very sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear of your loss. A notice came out at work that Governor O'Malley ordered the United States Flag and Maryland State Flag be flown at half-staff today. I am glad Sgt. Chase is being honored in this way and that it brings you some comfort. My own son, also a Marine, will be going to Afghanistan soon.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Julian will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.

To the Family of Sgt. Julian C. Chase

I wish I had the right words to say at this time, but I know there are none. I grieve for the loss of your beloved son and I know that I cannot fathom the pain you must be feeling. Your son will not be forgotten and what he did to help protect our homeland and our freedoms. It was his life that made him a Hero. It was his noble path that made him an American Hero. It was his ultimate sacrifice that made him a Fallen Hero. May God carry him to Heaven on His precious wings and give him a palace to live in. I pray that our Heavenly Father above will grace you with His love, His comfort and His peace. Heaven's Gates now has a new handsome Marine standing guard. Amen.

To Julian: May you rest in eternal peace.
To Tom: I only met Julian a few times, but he left a lasting impression. He first introduced himself to me as "Cisco" (as in Cisco the Kid) He was adorable and precocious. A few years later,one time you stayed with us in Ocean City, I noticed how intelligent and polite he was. But more than that, what remains in my memory to this day was how meaningful your father/son relationship was. It was nothing that was spoken, it was pure feeling. I was very moved after having spent time with you both. As a parent, I could only hope and pray that I would someday experience the same closeness with my son, as I had witnessed years before between you and Julian. Thank you both for such heart warming memories. I will keep Julian in my prayers. God bless you....

Julian was truly a special person: a soldier and a poet, a free spirit and an intensely loyal friend. I will always remember fondly the time he spent with Frank at our home, sharing a meal, engaging in lively conversation or just hanging out in the basement. Julian always had something fresh and interesting to add to the moment, and he had so much more to give to his community, his country and the world. All of us miss you.
