Peter Herbert Ware, 83, of Annapolis, died May 9 at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House after a seven-month battle with cancer.
He was born May 10, 1925, in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England to the late Albert and Ellen Rebecca Ware.
Peter joined the British army in 1944 with a commission in the Royal Signals, and was sent to Singapore and Burma. Upon returning to England, he completed his Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering in 1951 at the Brighton Technical College. In 1964, he achieved a Post Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering, Public Health Engineering at the Imperial College of Science and Technology London.
He and former wife, Pamela Harman, whom he married in 1950, moved to North Borneo (Malaysia) when he worked for the British and Malaysian Government's Public Works Dept. as an executive Engineer in the Water Supply division. Both of their daughters were born in Malaysia. From 1966-1968, the family lived in Brunei, where he was given a position within Binnie and Partners, an international consulting engineering firm. He next worked with engineering firm Camp Dresser and McKee, and lived in Boston, Izmir, Turkey and Colorado. From 1975-1987, he worked in the World Bank in Washington, D.C. within the Reconstruction and Development dept, traveling to India, China, Africa, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Pakistan and the Middle East, and for two years, he and his wife lived in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. After retirement, he was a self-employed consultant with the World Bank, which sent him overseas to Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Albania and Kosovo.
After his divorce, he later met Olga Pestova in St. Petersburg. They were married in 2003 where they lived in Annapolis. He enjoyed tennis, sailing, music, art and gardening. The family always had dogs, his favorite being German Shepherds, and he also enjoyed horses and horseback riding.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Howland and Eileen Dobson; and one brother, Kenneth Ware.
He is survived by his wife, Olga Ware; two daughters, Penelope Ware Menzies of Arnold and Victoria Valberg Ware of Stockholm, Sweden; and three grandchildren, Danielle Ware Sabatini and Jonathan Ware Sabatini of Arnold, and Jac Peter Forsberg Ware of Stockholm, Sweden.
Family and friends are invited to his memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15 at All Hallows' Parish, 3604 Solomons Island Road (Rte 2), Edgewater. A reception at his daughter's home will follow the service.
