Robert Mainzer Obituary

Robert Mainzer "Bob", 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 20, 2018. A 53-year resident of Bowie, MD, Bob was born on May 19, 1925 to Casper and Bertha in New York and later moved to Bowie in 1964 to continue his work for the Department of the Navy in Washington, DC. At the age of 18, he entered the U.S. Army and served his country in World War II in Europe. He earned the Purple Heart while participating in some of the most significant battles of the war including the Battle of the Bulge and capture of the bridge at Remagen. After earning his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering at New York University, Bob continued to serve his country working for the Department of the Navy and later with a defense contractor. After returning from the war, he met his wife Mildred "Millie" and remained married to his "sweetie" for 69 years until his death. He loved baseball, bowling, fishing, volunteer work at the local library and applying his engineering skills around the house as a handyman. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol. He is survived by his wife, Millie; son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Lorrie; and grandson, David. Bob is also survived by his brother, Lewis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hydrocephalus Association at www.hydroassoc.org.

Memories of childhoods spent together--making lead soldiers in the basement--summering at the beach--make believe with Lewis and Adele--our getting in trouble at the fish pond--so much more! Then our young married lives in Queens. I miss you!
