Robert Stroud Obituary

Robert Francis Stroud, of Severna Park, Maryland, passed away on February 27, 2015. Bob was born in East Orange, NJ on May 24, 1919. He was the son of Elizabeth and John Streisguth and brother of Vincent Stroud. He married Gladys Robinson on June 6, 1942. Robert entered the New Jersey National Guard in 1937 and was mobilized for World War II in 1940. He served in the 101st Airborne Division (H/506) as an infantry platoon leader. He made the parachute assault in Holland and fought with the division in the Siege of Bastogne. He was wounded at Bastogne, but after recovery in England, rejoined the division for the campaign through the end of the war in Germany. He remained in the army and served in Korea in the 25th Infantry Division. He brought his family to postings across the US and throughout the world on many travel adventures. Upon retirement in 1962 as a Lt Colonel, he completed his baccalaureate and Masters degrees at the University of Maryland. Bob joined the federal civil service, settled in Hillandale, MD and served as an Education Specialist at the Bethesda Naval Dental Postgraduate School from 1964-1982. They retired to Bethany Beach, DE and Cocoa Beach, FL. He and Gladys enjoyed the friendships of many dear friends in their 72 years of marriage. Bob is survived by Gladys, his five children -- Robert Stroud (Eileen) of Severna Park, MD; Susan Stroud of Washington, DC; Nancy Stroud (Carl House) of Boca Raton, FL; Donna Iliff (Tony) of Arnold, MD; and David Stroud (Lesley) of Chesapeake, VA -- and seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
