Barbara E. Rinehart

Barbara Elaine Rinehart, 82, of Littlestown, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Gettysburg Center. Born March 26, 1943, in Walkersville, MD, she was the daughter of the late William Arthur Crum and Ida Mary Holtzople Crum. She was the beloved wife of James W. Rinehart, Sr., her husband of 65 years. Barbara attended Walkersville High School and was a longtime member of Piney Creek Church of the Brethren. She and James raised six children together, and once they were in school, she worked as a substitute teacher and was also an Avon consultant for many years. She is fondly remembered for her time working at SuperThrift in Taneytown and Cactus Willie's, where her warmth and friendliness touched many lives. Barbara enjoyed canning food and making Christmas and Easter candy with her mother. She loved dogs and always had one by her side. In later years, she found enjoyment in watching game shows. In addition to her husband, James, she is survived by her children and their spouses: Donna and Raymond Tully, James Jr. & Lori Rinehart, Todd and Donna Rinehart, Randy and Sonya Rinehart, and Bryan and Jena Rinehart; as well as her stepdaughter, Pam Polk. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and their wives, Douglas and Vonnie Crum, and Gary and Mary Crum; sisters-in-law, Faye Baker, Joan Crouse and Selma Leman; and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon M. Rinehart, and granddaughter, Brittany Rinehart. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9, at 11 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home - Libertytown, 11802 Liberty Rd., Frederick, with Pastor Stan Diehl and her grandson, Pastor Dylan Rinehart, officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 8, from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m., and again on Thursday from 10–11 a.m., prior to the service.
