David H. Friedel Sr.

David Harry Friedel Sr., 67, of Glenwood, formerly of Owings Mills, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at home.

Born April 19, 1945, in Owings Mills, he was the son of the late Adolph Friedel and Eva Estelle Gaigley Freidel. He was the husband of Diane Mallalieu Friedel, his wife of more than 44 years.

He served honorably with the Navy in the Vietnam War, serving aboard the USN Carpenter- DD825. He was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. He was an electrical engineer, having retired after 31 years with Verizon.

He was an avid Orioles fan. He enjoyed growing vegetables and working in his garden. He and his wife liked to travel and had visited 49 of the 50 states, and had been to all the Major League ball parks. He also enjoyed building and flying remote-controlled airplanes. He was a member of the South Carroll Aero Modelers Club (S.C.A.M.).

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, David Harry Friedel Jr.; and other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Anne Friedel; six brothers; and one sister.

A memorial gathering will be held at from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll County.
