Harry Bohrer Obituary

Harry Bohrer, 92, lifelong resident of Mount Airy, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born April 7, 1920, in Mount Airy, he was the son of the late Anna Pearl Harry Bohrer and Benjamin Franklin Bohrer Sr. He was the husband of Joyce Lorraine Bohrer, his wife of nearly 60 years, as they were married Sept. 24, 1953.

At the age of 16, he went to work for H. Deets Warfield Sr., and held the position of greasing and washing cars. He then moved on to reconditioning used cars, and ended with the position of shop foreman.

He was drafted and departed for World War II on Christmas Eve 1944 by way of ship. He served for 23 months during World War II and he achieved the rank of staff sergeant. Upon his honorable discharge from the war, he returned to Mount Airy and established Bohrer Motors, with the guidance of his mentor and friend, H. Deets Warfield.

He was president, his brother Ben was vice president, and their sister Sheila served as secretary of the company. For the next 31 years, from 1947 until 1978, they ran their family business while holding an international dealership and selling international products such as trucks, school buses and later Cub Cadets.

In addition to being longtime residents of Mount Airy, he and his wife enjoyed many good times on their properties on the water in Shady Side and in Ocean City. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and crabbing. He enjoyed time with all of the family dogs that he had over the years.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Sandy Bohrer Heydemann and husband Peter Heydemann; sisters-in-law Evelyn Frances Zepp and Barbara Rhinecker; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve Larsen, of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mount Airy, officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
